'Melrose Place' casts gay character
During The CW's "Melrose Place" panel at the TV Critics Press Tour yesterday, show producers confirmed that they had added a gay character to the cast, but the actor playing him has now been outed.
According to AfterElton.com, Victor Webster ("Harper's Island," "Charmed") will play Caleb Brewer -- a cigar-smoking, scotch-drinking, L.A. Lakers-loving kind of guy -- who first appears in the series' second episode.
Oh, and he's also Ella (Katie Cassidy)'s boss.
But I will simply refer to him as "New Matt" from now on.

I hope the show is as soapy as the cast!! First the dude once from "All My Children" and now a "Days of Our Lives" alum! Oh, and let's not forget the soap that is the lives of "The Simpsons"! (and I'm not talking Marge & Homer!)
He's hot, i hope he's a regular. However, they still need to get Heather Locklear back for me to watch.
I didn't know Victor Webster was on a soap, but I was never a Days fan. I typically love my former soap stars!
I liked him on Mutant X and even watched him on the final season of Charmed, so I'm glad to see he has a regular role again.
Sucks though to cast a hot guy and not give his character a love life, so I hope he's not "NewMatt" cuz Matt had every buzz-worthy/stereotypical gay plotline - except for promiscuity! Not that I wanted Matt (or Caleb) to be promiscuous, but I didn't and don't want him to be sexless either.

Well, I'm not one to out gay actors, no wait I am, he's gay in real life. But that's obvious to anybody with a working gaydar. But the fact that a gay actor (although in the closet) is playing a gay character, that's great.
