Casting Call: Jackman's a 'Showman,' Gugino hits 'Sucker Punch,' Zahn gets 'Wimpy'

Hughjackman_xmenoriginswolverineredcarpet_290 For Hugh Jackman, there's never a time to not sell it.

Jackman, who signed on to "Avon Man" earlier this month, will now prove there really is a sucker born every minute, according to Variety: The Aussie star will be playing American hustler P.T. Barnum in a musical called "The Greatest Showman on Earth."

The project is still in its earliest stages, though word is Anne Hathaway is being courted for the role of Barnum's love, singer Jenny Lind.

"Watchmen" co-star Carla Gugino has re-teamed with that movie's director, Variety says. The pair will work together on "Sucker Punch," in which a young woman (Emily Browning) in an asylum creates a rich fantasy world to help escape. Gugino will play a nurse.

Gugino's involvement maintains that film's all-female cast. Also on board are "High School Musical 3" star Vanessa Hudgens, "Stop-Loss" co-star Abbie Cornish and "The Soloist's" Jena Malone.

Steve Zahn probably doesn't like being called wimpy, but he has signed on to play a father figure in "The Diary of a Wimpy Kid." The movie, based on Jeff Kinney's 2007 novel, follows the titular kid as he makes his way through the cruelties of junior high school.
