'Fringe' plans 'X-Files' homage
"The X-Files" is returning to the small screen.
No, don't freak out, the show isn't being remade a la "90210" or "Melrose Place." Instead, the season premiere of "Fringe" will simply include a wink -- or two -- to the show it so often gets compared to.
"Yes, it is true," showrunner Jeff Pinkner confirmed to Zap2it. "[There will be] an homage to 'X-Files.' In fact, there are at least two in the episode."
Jeff told us "Fringe" regularly pays homage to other things and people they love in more vague ways, but when it comes to "X-Files," there won't be any doubt about it. "It'll be obvious [to everyone]," he said. "Both of [the nods] are obvious."
While Jeff was hesitant to give us details on their little tributes, series star John Noble (Walter) shared that at least one of them is pictorial. Hmm...

Oooohhh! I wondered if they would ever mention X-FILES, either as something that exists in their world, OR as something that they could compare themselves to a pop culture reference. I was kinda so-so on the show until the season finale blew me away, so I was hooked already - but this icing on the cake will be really fun it sounds!
Well, I love the X-Files, and Fringe has often annoyed with me with how closely it has borrowed from that universe. However, any chance to see Mulder and Scully on screen again will probably prompt me to tune in. So, well played Fringe. :)

I'm not too fond of Fringe though I'm a big fan of X-Files. Still not gonna watch Fringe just for a reference to one of my favorite shows.
This is EXCELLENT and EXCITING NEWS!! If this is a blatant bribe to get folks to watch, I'm in! But only for the homage!! I gave up on Fringe because 1) if I'm going to watch the X-Files, I'll put in the dvd's. 2) I could care less why the characters do what they do. Give me some Mulder & Scully anyday!!! A mere photo of them compels me more than these guys! Give us a reason to care!

Don't understand the Fringe hate. I really enjoy the show. Yes, I know it has the X-files vibe, but it's really well done and hello, Pacey! And Walter is one of the best characters on TV right now. I'm looking forward to season 2.
I'm guessing Mulder's "I Want To Believe" poster will make an appearance, that's "pictorial". M***ive X-Files fan here, ran a very popular episode guide site back in the day (FOX shut me down 3 times, yeah, baby! ;-), so I had high hopes for "Fringe", which they haven't quite been achieved, but it's still a bit of scary, sci-fi fun.
