'Dirty Dancing' ready for the next step

Dirtydancing_290 How many times must we tell you not to put Baby in the corner? At least once more, apparently.

Lionsgate is preparing to remake the 1987 classic "Dirty Dancing," according to Production Week. The original followed "Baby" Houseman (Jennifer Grey) as she learned to love via some sexy moves from dance instructor Johnny Castle (Patrick Swayze).

There's no word yet on whether the plot will change or who will star. Swayze has recently suffered health problems that could nix his involvement, though we suspect Grey's schedule would at least allow for a cameo.

Lionsgate is familiar with the material: The studio was behind 2004's prequel "Dirty Dancing: Havana Nights," which followed a Cuban dance contest set five years before the original movie. Swayze made a cameo appearance.

"Dancing" is one of many '80s movies currently being remade, including the similarly dance-focused "Footloose" and another Swayze flick, "Red Dawn."

STOP with the 80's remakes! Just STOP! Come up with new fresh ideas. Just watch...John Hughes' films will be next.

I just don't see this remake working. There's no need for it.

If you're going to remake something, remake/ "fixit" films that were "almost" good. Dirty Dancing, Grease, Footloose aren't exactly Hollywood cl***ics, but they are iconic movies. You can not live up to the expectations on a remake. A Red Dawn "fixit" isn't a bad idea as the first one is little more than right wing propaganda today.

This remake is a failure in the making. Whoever's asking for this should be taken out to a pasture and flogged. Probably the same person that year's ago ordered a Chachi Loves Joanie pilot

If the remake is as awful as the "prequel" was - then just forget it. You can't improve upon perfection. Leave my 80's movies alone!

effing sh!thole! what the eff?! couldn't they just leave 'em well alone already?!

I just don't get it. What is the point here? Patrick Swayze and Jennifer Grey delivered outstanding, flawless performances. You simply cannot improve upon sheer perfection. Re-making "Dirty Dancing" is a really REALLY stupid idea! And besides, this movie isn't even all that old. Wait another 50 years or so, if even then.
