'Dancing With the Stars': Why Ashley Hamilton is more of a star than Dean McDermott

One of the things actor Dean McDermott is known for is actively campaigning to be on "Dancing With the Stars." And while his claim on being a "star" is debatable, when you look at the new cast list one might very well go, "Well, why Ashley Hamilton and not Dean McDermott?"

Let us break it down for you.
The Work
Dean does have 75 acting credits to his name. But mostly he's known for the Oxygen reality show he does with his wife Tori Spelling, "Home Sweet Hollywood." And would he have that series if it weren't for his being married to Tori? Uh, no.
Ashley has done a couple acting gigs; most notably 12 episodes of "Sunset Beach." However, he did co-write the song "Come Undone" with Robbie Williams.
The Nepotism
Ashley's dad, George, was on Season 2.
The closest Dean has come to "DWTS" is in that his wife's friends/former co-stars Ian Ziering and Jennie Garth who were on Seasons 4 and 5, respectively.
The 90210
As mentioned before, Dean is married to Tori Spelling who played Donna Martin on the original "Beverly Hills, 90210."
But Ashley was not only married to original "90210" star Shannen Doherty, he was also engaged to new "90210-er" Sara Foster.
Fine. At this point Jon Gosselin is probably more of a "star" than either Ashley or Dean, but when it comes to star adjacency, we're giving Ashley Hamilton the edge.

Thank heavens. Not one single person I give a crap in the world about, as usual. Not that I'd ever tune in such tripe. But it's always nice to look over the list of has-beens and never-weres to see that my viewing habits are plainly justified.
Keep catering to that 65+ demo, ABC. Just leaves more audience for the rest of us to divvy up.
This article is a failure. I have no idea who Ashley Hamilton is and I first thought he was a she based on the name. Dean is a far bigger name, people know who Dean actually is.
Dean would have been great. I've never heard of over half of these "stars" dancing in the new season. ugh!

and it's true, Ashley Hamilton is barely known either. and is it my imagination or did he get a lot uglier?
anyway, i'd rather see Ashley Hamilton than that icky Dean McDermott.
Unless Tori and Dean were on I'd rather have Ashley. I'm super looking forward to Donny Osmond and Kelly Osborne on DWTS too!!!!
It's a good thing Hollywood is full of hasbeens for ABC to select from and that the US has such a large 65+ population to support this show. I'm surprised Joan Rivers hasn't shown up on here yet. Maybe Kirstie Alley? Oh wait she should be on that other dancing show for fat cows.
