'Dancing With the Stars' sweethearts split

Shannon Elizabeth and Derek Hough will have to find new dance partners in life.

The couple, who met as partners on "Dancing With the Stars," announced on Twitter Friday night that they called it quits.

"Hi everyone, we wanted you all to know directly from us, that Shannon & I have decided to end our relationship as boyfriend & girlfriend," tweeted Hough.

Elizabeth then posted, "however, we love & care about each other very much & will remain friends & in each other's lives."

Hough was the pro who taught Elizabeth her moves on the sixth season of "Dancing." They finished in seventh place.
