'Chuck' spoilers, or not, from Zachary Levi and Joshua Gomez
Zachary Levi and Joshua Gomez said a lot of things about the third season of "Chuck" Wednesday night. A few of them may even be true.
The two stars of NBC's cult favorite were clearly having a good time as they joshed with reporters at the network's press tour party. As I entered their orbit, they were discussing Levi's rather impressive beard (Gomez's facial hair was also a little thicker than when we last saw him on the show) and how it might fit into the show.
"... We're ice truckers that end up getting fired, then we go on 'Deadliest Catch,' then we had a short stint on 'Ax Men,'" Levi explains. "You've actually probably already seen all this -- it's already aired. But we use some of it as B-roll in the season."
"It's a great crossover," Gomez adds.
Things only got weirder from there. Here, as best I can replicate it, is a transcript.
Q: So it's not some kind of Unabomber thing?
Levi: Don't count that out. ... What's his name? Kaczynski? Krasinski? No, not John Krasinski from "The Office." I can't tell you how many times I've been to a press thing and someone comes up and says, "So, the new season of 'The Office' ..." I'm not even kidding.
Q: There is some resemblance.
Levi: There's a similar thing going on.
Gomez: [Motions to Levi's beard]
Levi: Have you seen "Away We Go"? He's got a giant beard! I can't get away from that guy.
Q: So it's not like a "Teen Wolf" scenario?
Levi: We'd like it to be. He [Gomez] would be Teen Wolf -- I'd be Stiles, I think. He'd be on top of the van, doing handstands, backflips. Could you imagine him, in the '80s basketball shorts? Then you're starring in the school play as the colonel in the Confederate army. ... That's all him.
Gomez: It writes itself.
Levi: Trust me, I've pitched it.
[Crosstalk]
Levi: Anyone should know if you're coming to talk to me and Josh, you're not going to get a straight answer anyway. ... We could make some more stuff up. Come on.
Q: So how much free Subway have you gotten in the past few months?
Levi: Five tons. They sent in an entire truck with turkey breast footlongs, with everything.
Gomez: Remember that scene from "Indecent Proposal"? We did that with Subway sandwiches. Just on the bed with meat an cold cuts, slapping each other silly with ... no?
Levi: I totally remember that. I had so much mustard in my ... forget it. I'll tell you something about that -- the jalapenos don't sit well. I can deal with the pepperoncinis. ...
Q: Is there any truth to the rumor that Sarah [Yvonne Strahovski] will be working in a Subway this season?
Levi: I have no idea. The truth is I have no idea. I think she might. But we're also kind of sworn to secrecy.
Q: Is there any chance you two might join Jeffster!?
Levi: Is there any chance we might join Jeffster!. Maybe for a special performance.
Gomez: Is there any chance Jeffster! will join us?
Q: I gather Morgan's Benihana dream doesn't work out?
Gomez: I mean, it opens up, there's some Benihana, but I don't think it's gonna go too well. And you know, you can't ...
Levi: You can't cut it? Is that what you were gonna say?
Gomez: "Can't cut it." Nice.
Levi: That's a double entendre right there. He can't go to Benihana -- I can't lose him. I can't lose Morgan to Benihana.
[A few seconds of silence] Levi: I love that everyone's standing around going, "What can I ask that they'll actually, honestly answer?"
Q: What would you be doing if you had been canceled?
Levi: We can answer that.
Gomez: I can answer in visual form [takes a sizable slug from his beer].
Levi: Hopefully I'd be getting another job. ... But at the end of the day, and I know it's so cliche to say everything happens for a reason, but if we had been renewed quietly in the night, nobody would have cared. But the very fact that they held on and we were on the chopping block really riled up our passionate, dedicated following to the point where they were a huge voice and part of the process.
I feel like now -- we got picked up virally, all these campaigns got us a lot of traction and a lot of buzz. We need that, especially as a show that's kind of struggling for every viewer. At the end of the day, what we were able to accomplish was being a championship for our fans. They're our shareholders. Being at Comic-Con and having 4,000 people deep. I'm just stoked to have been part of the process.
Q: [NBC Entertainment president] Angela Bromstad said that the show is on a good creative track so far.
Levi: I think so. I'm really excited to dive in to the next 13 episodes and just give back to the fans for everything they fought for.
Q: I understand that the new Intersect that downloaded into you doesn't really work, or doesn't work for very long?
Levi: That has been outed, yeah. There's a hitch in the giddy-up, as they say. Intersect 2.0 is not an exact science, and we need to work through that in the third season.

Watching Curb Your Enthusiasm S4 the other day and who should pop-up as a bellhop? Zachary Levi.
LOVE Chuck! I'm so glad it's coming back for another season. Nice to see that Zach and Josh are funny guys, they seem pretty down to earth. Looking forward to the next season! March can't come soon enough!
