"Private Practice" creator Shonda Rhimes is a notorious spoiler-phobe, but with a busload of reporters visiting the set Tuesday, she did let loose with a little bit of scoop on the upcoming season.
"Grey's Anatomy" star Chandra Wilson will cross over to "Private Practice" in the season's third episode, Rhimes said during the set visit. Miranda Bailey will travel to L.A. to visit her former colleague Addison Montgomery (Kate Walsh) and perform a "very interesting" medical procedure, Rhimes says.
Bailey being Bailey, she'll also not be shy about sharing her opinions about the goings-on at Oceanside Wellness, Rhimes adds.
Wilson won't be the only familiar face popping up on "Private Practice" early in the season. ABC also confirms that "Party Down" star Ken Marino (who was on set Tuesday, clad in a hospital gown) and former "ER" actress Kellie Martin will also guest in the first batch of episodes.
The crossover will continue the relatively free movement of characters between "Grey's" and its spinoff. Walsh has appeared on several episodes of "Grey's Anatomy" the past couple seasons, and last spring Patrick Dempsey's Derek Shepherd guested on "Practice."
The new season will pick up only a few minutes after last season's finale, which ended with off-her-meds patient Katie (Amanda Foreman) injecting Violet (Amy Brenneman) with a paralyzing drug and about to steal her baby. The season premiere will deal with the immediate aftermath, while episode two will jump ahead a few weeks, Brenneman says.

awesome:) i cant wait to see bailey come to LA! and i cant wait to see what happens to violet in the season 3 premiere. i dont think she will die but i wonder if the baby will survive? hopefully so!

How can Bailey Greys had a couple of weeks between the crossover episode and the finale and private practice had a couple of months. If Greys doesn't do a time jump the two shows wont mesh.

Annie - Private Practice doesn't have a timejump. The premiere picks up straight from the finale and then ep 2 jumps a couple of weeks, not months !
Sam and Bailey should be fun again.
Claire - Private Practice already did a timejump. 3 months p***ed in single episode (ep 2.17 if I remember correctly), so PP is already a few months ahead of Grey's. Annie is right, if they will not do a timejump in the first few eps of Grey's it will not make sense at all.

Bailey can only improve Private Practice. It's okay but her sharp observations should liven things up. I can't wait to hear what she has to say about Addison.
This show is definitely one of ABC's worst efforts. Barely 2M people watch it in reruns. That says it all.
