Bryansinger_290 This has all happened before, and "Battlestar Galactica" will be a movie again.

"X-Men" helmer Bryan Singer will direct a movie for Universal Pictures based on the recently concluded Syfy series, according to Variety. The first few episodes of the original 1978 series were also made into a theatrical movie.

See what's next for the 'Battlestar Galactica' crew members.

There's no word on how a movie would fit in with the new series' continuity; without spoiling too much, we'll just say the series ended on a note that would make a continued storyline extremely complicated. More likely, any movie would have to take place during the events of the series, as Syfy's telemovies "Razor" and "The Plan" do. That said, the series ended with a few remaining mysteries that could be explored.

Singer, by the way, was involved with the drive to reboot the "Galactica" series, but had to drop out of the efforts due to scheduling conflicts. Glen A. Larson, creator of the original and producer of the new series, will produce the new movie.

sounds like a good idea, but probably better off waiting 5 years, since the last one is so fresh

Hm, read your sources, calm your horses: even Variety wrote 'as the studio indicates that the film will be "a complete reimagination."' Other sources are much clearer on the suject (which has been know even bevore Singer came on board): As with the 2003 show the movie will be a stand alone production based on the concepts of the old show from the '70s.
