'So You Think You Can Dance': Did the right guy and girl go home on Thursday?
Oh man, this was a tough one, no?
I made the trek from Comic-Con back to L.A. tonight and my first order of business once arriving was, of course, to finally watch this week's "So You Think You Can Dance" elimination episode.
I had the privilege of attending Wednesday's performance show, during which Ellen brought the house down with her humor, and the Top 8 delivered a few very memorable performances.
Amongst my favorites were, no surprise, Melissa and Ade's Tyce Diorio piece, but I also really dug both of Jason's numbers. Partnered with Kayla, his Tyce-choreographed Broadway reminded Nigel of the great Gene Kelly, and his Shane Sparks-choreographed "Dead Weight" hip hop was deliciously deranged and expertly synchronized. Janette too was, as usual, a part of one of my favorite pieces with the Sonya-choregraphed "Cover-Her-Mouth" jazz, which showcased her precision, skill and personality, and convinced notoriously-critical judge Mia Michaels to declare Janette her "favorite dancer this year."
So why did Jason and Janette get cut?
Well, because we're in the home stretch now and every single one of these final 8 fully deserve to be on that stage. They've all had moments of brilliance up there, but someone still has to go home each week.
I think it was tough to see Jason cut though, because he was kind of a late bloomer on the series, just recently reaching his full potential with the spectacular Travis Wall-choreographed contemporary piece, while partnered with Jeanine. Also, his solos lately have really been doing it for me. I love watching Jason dance. I don't know that I would've said that three weeks ago.
And seeing Jeanette go, well, as Nigel said, it kind of ruined the hundreth episode. We could've easily seen her going on to win the whole deal and it just sucks to see a dancer of her talent and likability eliminated at all.
But again, someone had to get the axe.
Would you have swapped Jeanette and/or Jason out for someone else?

I would have sent home Evan and Kayla, but agree that all 8 dancers are amazing!!
Ade needs to go! his solo's are posturing and unimaginative and he has only lucked out in partnering with Melissa, getting good choreography and having a muscled chest. Jason should still be there!
Evan and Janine should have gone weeks ago!
Janette should still be there! Kayla should have gone in her place! Love all the dancers, though!
I wonder if Janettes solo had anything to do with it? It just seemed not her style. I wanted her to be in the final 4 and I want J9 to win. I can't stop watching J9's solo to let the drummer kick I love how she does more in her solos than fall into the floor. Kayla and Ade should have went home but the emotional blackmail save him.
OF COURSE THE WRONG TWO WENT HOME. WHO SHOULD HAVE GONE HOME WERE ADE AND MELISSA... THEY WERE ONLY SAVED DUE TO THE SECOUND DANCE AND THE FREAKIN JUDGES CRYING.... JANETTE SHOULD HAVE BEEN THERE UNTIL THE END... ADE AND MELISSA SHOULD GO AND EVAN.... BUT NOW MY MONEY IS ON KAYLA TO WIN WIN WIN WIN
OH YAH: Janine who should send Janette some flowers, because you should have been in that bottom two..... VERY VERY lucky
Evan has no business in the top 10 much less the top 6. He's very good at his solos (choreographed by his brother) BUT nothing else. He hasn't been fantastic in anything this season, but his ridiculous fanbase hasn't let him anywhere near the bottom. If he wins the show I'm going to be done. I know it's America's "favorite dancer" not most skilled, but if a dancer with no versatility and numerous lackluster performances wins it will be a disgrace.
I think all the girls are fabulous; but I think Melissa would've left if it wasn't for that contemporary routine. As for the guys, it's well past Evan's time to go. I love him, but seriously, his dancing doesn't compare with Jason's, Ade's, and certainly not Brandon's.
Melissa dn Evan should have left because they both seem to be limited by their own style. Evan has originality but lacks strength and Melissa seems to have a hard time ***imilating other styles. I don't think it would be fair if Evan wins and it could end up affecting his career negatively as he would probably work less than any other top 10 contestants.
Something bugs me about Brandon (can't pinpoint what it is) but he seems to be the most deserving of the title at this point. Honorable mention to Jeanine who I feel is better than Kayla overall. She's just underrated.
