Scrubs_290 "Scrubs" will be getting some new blood behind the camera as it makes the transition to a new setup this season.

Josh Bycel, who's written for "Psych," "American Dad" and "Andy Barker, P.I," among other shows, is joining the veteran ABC comedy as an executive producer, Variety reports. He'll also be co-showrunner alongside creator Bill Lawrence.

Bycel effectively replaces exec producers Neil Goldman and Garrett Donovan, who have moved on to NBC's "Community," and will help oversee the show while Lawrence also gets the new comedy "Cougar Town" off the ground.

"Scrubs" is moving away from its hospital setting for its ninth season and is instead expected to focus on a medical school where Turk (Donald Faison) and Cox (John C. McGinley) are teaching. Zach Braff has left the regular cast but will appear in several episodes, and Sarah Chalke, Judy Reyes and Ken Jenkins are likely to guest as well.

ABC is also looking for a big name to help round out the cast. The network has ordered 18 episodes of the show for next season; it's set to premiere in late fall.

I've been a huge fan of Scrubs over the past eight years, but I wish they had just let it end this season. Changing the setting and losing 80% of the original cast (even if they make guest appearances) is a "jump the shark" move if I've heard one.

Scrubs is my fav show but i just dont think this is a good move. Wish they would just let it be but i will still watch what they do next season.

They're doing it, so I'm planning on watching it. If it's not a good show then I won't. It doesn't really change what came before. I never thought Fraser would work but it turned out to be one of the best sit-coms ever.

I think you have to look at it as almost an entirely new show and not really try to worry about the way the old Scrubs ended and cut it some creative license.

Again, the point is that if it's a good show it's a good show. These people are not real people, they are just characters. A good Scrubs-like comedy is going to be far better then most things currently on TV and a lot of what sounds like it's coming in the new season.

Good lord I'm so sick of hearing that Scrubs is jumping the shark or that this is a bad idea without ever having seen the new spin on it. If it ends up sucking then so be it but for people to judge it and say it will be terrible based off of the minimal amount of info currently of available is shortsighted and incredibly stupid.

lol, so the Cheif of Medicine and Surgury leave their positions and go teach? Yeah right! This show has been horrible for the past 2 years. I'm refusing to watch this new show, ABC is greedy as hell all they want is more episodes for syndication

Wow, the logic of morons is really amazing. (LOL) Here's how to know what's right. Listen to a moronic rant (your brain will instantly pick up on idiot speak)then do the exact opposite of what they just said.

Well, MC, you're right -- we shouldn't judge until we've actually seen the new episodes. On paper, I think it sounds like a bad idea (and reminds me of 'AfterMASH'). I just wanted to see 'Scrubs' end with dignity, and this feels like they're flogging a dead horse. But maybe it'll work -- here's to hoping that it does.

Why don't they just call this After-M*A*S*H?

CJKati, I was thinking the same thing.

Look behind you guys. I think... yup, that's a shark alright. Nice jump!
