News roundup: 'Project Runway' all-stars, ABC premieres, 'House of Payne'

Santinorice_projectrunwayallstars_290 Before the new crop of "Project Runway" designers fires up the sewing machines on Aug. 20, Lifetime will invite some fan favorites from previous seasons to make it work.

A two-hour "Project Runway: All-Stars Challenge" will air at 8 p.m. ET Thursday, Aug. 20, leading into the sixth-season premiere (and the first on Lifetime) of the fashion competition. Eight past contestants will be vying for a $100,000 prize.

Just like a regular "Runway" episode, Tim Gunn will be on hand to offer advice to the contestants, and Heidi Klum, Michael Kors and Nina Garcia will sit in judgment. The eight contestants are season two rivals Santino Rice and Daniel Vosovic; season three winner Jeffrey Sebelia, runner-up Uli Herzner and fourth-place finisher Mychael Knight; season four's Sweet P and Chris March; and last season's runner-up, Korto Momolu.

ABC has completed its premiere schedule for the fall, giving debut dates to "Eastwick" and "Brothers & Sisters," and has also added one more show to its summer lineup.

"Eastwick," based on John Updike's "The Witches of Eastwick," will premiere at 10 p.m. Wednesday, Sept. 23. It will be part of a full night of first-year shows for the network, along with comedies "Hank," "The Middle" (both of which premiere on Sept. 30), "Modern Family" and "Cougar Town." "Brothers & Sisters," meanwhile, will open its fourth season in its customary Sunday-night home on Sept. 27.

The network has also announced an Aug. 26 premiere for "Crash Course," an automotive competition in which teams of two face a series of driving challenges in search of a $50,000 prize. Orlando Jones and Dan Cortese will host the show.

TBS is extending the run of "House of Payne" by 20 more episodes, bringing the total for Tyler Perry's sitcom to 172.

"We have a terrific relationship with Tyler Perry, and this deal means new episodes of 'House of Payne' will continue to air on TBS well into the future,"  Turner exec Michael Wright says. "Tyler stands alone in the entertainment business today as an entrepreneur who knows his audience."

The 20-episode order comes on the heels of a pair of 26-episode pickups earlier in the show's life, which in turn followed TBS' initial pickup of 100 episodes. Perry and his crew have cranked out episodes at a breakneck pace; more than 120 have already aired. The show has averaged 3 million viewers per episode this year.
