Jackiechan_290 Jaden Smith will be doing chores for Jackie Chan.

Chan has signed on to co-star opposite Smith in an upcoming remake of "The Karate Kid," according to Variety. The action star will play the wise mentor role originated by Pat Morita in the 1984 film.

In that movie, Morita's Mr. Miyagi made a young protege (Ralph Macchio) perform a series of seemingly mundane chores that subtly taught the kid karate.

To reflect the movie's shift to a Chinese connection (as opposed to the original's Japanese), the movie has been retitled "The Kung Fu Kid" and the action moved from California to China.

Shooting began Saturday in Beijing.

I wonder how you say "Whoop-diddly-doo," in Mandarin?

Not so sure about this. Is William Zabka gonna be in it?

There could be no less appealing star for this than Will Smith's son. I will never, NEVER see this movie.

Does every movie deserve to be remade? Couldn't they just say we are making a movie with Jackie Chan and the Fresh Prince's Kid, sort of like Karate Kid? Oh wait, they could, and no one will come. When will Hollywood start making original movies or at least original movies from other than previous movies?

This is completely stupid. That kid is only 11, they need somebody he can play 16 or they shouldn't even call it a remake. The whole plot doesn't make sense for an 11 year old.
