Hilary Duff goes undercover on 'Gossip Girl'

"Gossip Girl" has racked up another casting coup, signing Hilary Duff for a guest arc in the fall.
Duff's casting, which The CW confirmed Wednesday afternoon, follows on the heels of Joanna Garcia joining the show as Nate's (Chace Crawford) new love interest. Word is that Duff's character may be cozying up to one of the "Gossip" guys too.
Her character, Olivia, will enter the "GG" orbit as Vanessa's (Jessica Szohr) roommate at NYU. There's a catch, though: Olivia's a one-time child star who wants a normal college experience and is hoping her fame won't prevent that. Hence her living in the dorms with V.
Duff, of course, is a former child (or teenage, anyway) star too, having shot to fame as the star of "Lizzie McGuire." She's been taking on more grown-up roles lately, guesting on "Ghost Whisperer" and "Law & Order: SVU" last season. She's also attached to a retelling of "Bonnie and Clyde" that's supposed to begin shooting later this year.

I used to love Hillary Duff in Lizzy McGuire.
I am so so mad!! I can't believe they selected HER. The GG cast is so fresh, unique, and absolutely stunning in their own way. Hilary Duff is none of those. She doesn't fit in. Ugh, as long as she doesn't do anything with Nate and Chuck, I think I can bear with it. But I am still very very disappointed with the GG casting people.
The actress-designer-pop chanteuse will play Olivia Burke, a movie star who enrolls at NYU in search of a traditional college experience. She ends up rooming with Vanessa (Jessica Szohr) so it's safe to say she'll be majoring in Drama!
i dislike this. hilary duff's ability to act is extremely limited and while she does pull off 'vapid self-satisfied teenager' quite well, i do not want to see her awkwarding-up the show.
please, oh please don't let her near chuck b***.

Can this girl act? The only thing I've seen her in was SVU. Instead of saying "didn't" like everyone else does, she kept saying "did-int" over and over (as in "I did-int do it!), like an acting school flunky. It was like hearing nails on a chalkboard. Never saw Gossip Girl, either, so that's irrelevant, but she just can't seem to act very well.
I think that this is a fine idea!
Well at least she'll be on something I'm not watching anyway - as opposed to "Mad Men", "Rescue Me" or "Desperate Housewives." Oh wait, I said I'd stop watching that one since they killed Edie.
