Emmys trim telecast, will pre-tape some awards
The Emmy Awards are hoping to present a tighter, shorter broadcast to the nation in September -- which means some of the honors traditionally handed out during the prime-time telecast will get short shrift.
The Academy of Television Arts and Sciences will pre-tape the honors for eight categories -- most of them in the miniseries and TV-movie realm -- and show the acceptance speeches during the Sept. 20 telecast, Variety reports. That, presumably, will save the show's producers some time as the winners make their way to the stage and say their thank yous.
One of the categories being bounced from the telecast is best writing for a drama series (though not, curiously, writing for comedy series). That honor, in all likelihood, will go to "Mad Men," which has four of the five nominations ("Lost" has the other one).
The other categories being taken off the live broadcast are best miniseries; best made-for-TV movie; supporting actor and actress in a miniseries or movie; writing and directing for a miniseries, movie or dramatic special; and directing for a variety, music or comedy series.
CBS is airing the Primetime Emmys this year. Neil Patrick Harris will host.

who are jessca land and drew berrymoor?
It's stupid not to show the Drama Writing award. A drama is all about writing.
Great writing separates the Mad Men and Dexter from the The Philanthropist

Ridiculous. It's not enough to screw up the categories by eliminated performer in a variety music or comedy series/special (which should have been split into series and specials), reality show host and reality show judge --- they have to screw up the telecast itself.
Performance awwards should never been shunted from a live telecast as that is why viewers are tuning in.
It is amazing that the people behind such idiotic decisions are making more than 60% of the world.
No one tunes in to see who wins in the mini-series and movie categories. Yes, they are usually big stars but people still don't care. This is the part of the telecast where people get up to get snacks and/or use the restroom. BORING. And it doesn't say they won't air them at all... they will still (unfortunately) be in the telecast, just not live.
It is strange, however, to treat the drama writing and comedy writing nominees differently. It is likely because Mad Men has a virtual "lock" on the drama category but it's still a terrible decision. They should be treated equally.
P.S. aaa - loved the joke. I love Jessica Lange, but I'm not familiar with Jessica Land. Her stunt double, perhaps?
Best miniseries! :(
I get it, considering I never saw any until Generation Kill, but I feel bad for the people who have worked on these shows.
