Dr. Seuss' 'The Lorax' coming to Universal

Thelorax_290 Another Dr. Seuss character is coming to the big screen. This time, he's got something important to say.

Theodor Geisel's 1971 "The Lorax" will be getting the CGI treatment from Universal Pictures, according to Variety. The story is told by the Once-ler, an all-consuming being who devastates an idyllic grove in the name of industry. The Lorax tries to speak out against it, but eventually he too flees, and the Once-ler is left to contemplate his misdeeds.

There's no word yet on whether Seuss go-to guy Jim Carrey, who starred in "Horton Hears a Who!" and "How the Grinch Stole Christmas," will be involved.

Though production hasn't yet started, Universal is hoping for a 2012 release date.
