Christianslater_290 ABC's new drama "The Forgotten" may have found its new leading man.

Christian Slater is in talks with the network about starring in the Jerry Bruckheimer-produced series, according to The Hollywood Reporter. He would replace Rupert Penry-Jones, who left the show not long after ABC picked it up in May.

The show is also looking to replace former "24" star Reiko Aylesworth, who also departed following the pilot.

"The Forgotten" is about an ex-cop who works with a group of amateur detectives on cases invovling anonymous victims. Mark Friedman ("Home of the Brave") wrote the pilot and is executive producing with Bruckheimer, Jonathan Littman and director Danny Cannon.

Slater starred in NBC's "My Own Worst Enemy" last season. He's also made guest appearances on "Alias," "My Name Is Earl" and "The West Wing."

"The Forgotten" is scheduled to premiere Tuesday, Sept. 22.

That would be super awesome if Christian Slater got the role. I think that it is wonderful news due mostly in part that I have been a fan of his work in movies :).

Yeah, and he was great in "My Own Worst Enemy" too. Hope the plots/writing of "Forgotten" are at least that good!

Slater's great, I hope this works out.

I was ****ed when Slater's "My Own Worst Enemy" was canned because I thought it was really good. Hopefully this other show will be just as good. But doesn't the premise of "The Forgotten" sound like a clone of "Cold Case" without a soundtrack?

Also, when they say that the other two leads "departed", does that mean that they were fired or that they left voluntarily? The original male lead was a Brit but they had him doing an American accent and he sounded so bland as an American. Much rather hear him speak British.

Penry-Jones and Aylesworth were fired because of the overall negative reaction from critics. ABC felt that the only way to try and salvage the show was firing the two main actors since firing a bunch of no-names wouldn't appease the critics. What ABC does not realize, all they are doing is rearranging the deck chairs on the "Titanic" since nothing is going to save "The Forgotten." The writing is very sub par if the original pilot is any indication. I actually felt sorry for the actors having to deal with such tripe. Aylesworth and Penry-Jones are better off.

I think it`s a great news for the show

Penry-Jones did an interview with the BBC yesterday during Wimbledon where he briefly talked about the Forgotten
(but he did not refer to it by name).

He seems to be under the impression that the pilot was not picked up for series, when in fact it was just his (and Reiko's) role(s) being recast. Just as well - he was not impressed with the quality of the pilot script and sounds like he did not enjoy the experience.

Christian Slater is certainly a top notch actor and jack of all trades. Even if things might have started off subpar, he in concerted effort with Bruckheimer, have the ability to turn lemons in lemonade. I wish him the best in his efforts.
