Alton Brown's Five Kitchen Essential Must-Haves
A newly slim, sockless (he forgot to pack them) birthday boy Alton Brown (he turned 47) took time out from promoting the new Food Network series "The Next Iron Chef" on Thursday (July 30) night to give us his list of five items he can't live without in his kitchen.
Considering Brown's widely known disdain for items that can only do one thing, we were a bit surprised to find that a panini press is on the list. Of course, we also didn't realize you can grill vegetables and make a "wicked" doughnut dessert on one either.

Whatawhat?
Alton Brown is awesome. Talk about a well thought out and considerably useful answer.
He IS awesome. And adorable.
Spring loaded tongs,
electric kettle,
french press,
panini press,
heating pad.

thanks for commenting, katrina. i was beginning to think i was the only person left who still used dial-up. and thanks, miner, for giving us the list. looks a little strange without the commentary, though. heating pad?
"heating pad?"
keeps food warm (like a warming pad.
Good post indeed! Thanks for sharing such nice information.
Kitchen Cabinets
I'm surprised he didn't say his salt cellar, but I suppose that doesn't really do anything besides hold spices lol
I have a few gadgets for the kitchen that I couldn't live without. Without a doubt my number one is a panini press, love making hot sandwiches with it.
