VIDEO: Mark-Paul Gosselaar's Zack attack on 'Jimmy Fallon'
As he's established himself as a grown-up actor with roles on "NYPD Blue," "Commander in Chief" and now "Raising the Bar," Mark-Paul Gosselaar has (understandably) distanced himself from his first big role on "Saved by the Bell."
Consider the distance achieved.
Gosselaar was a guest on "Late Night with Jimmy Fallon" Monday -- and did the whole appearance in character as Zack Morris, his "Saved by the Bell" alter ego. Or is it that he's been "Zack Morris" all along, and just had to change his name to "Mark-Paul Gosselaar" when he got his SAG card because there was already someone with his name in the union?
Watch for yourself (and be sure to catch the performance by his band, Zack Attack, at the 7:30 mark):
Fallon has made it his mission to host a "Saved by the Bell" reunion on "Late Night," and it looks like things are lining up. I only hope that Zack and Kelly can put aside any lingering hard feelings over their breakup.
What did you think of "Zack's" appearance? It's kind of cool when an actor can poke fun at himself, no?

This was awesome. He's a good sport, and from what I've seen, a good actor.
Totally cool! I've loved how Mark--Paul has matured as an actor. Loved him on everything he's done. He's on his way to George Cloony status--doesn't take himself too seriously, good to his friends, good actor, and FUNNY! Also loved the 'haircut' episode of Raising the Bar. I have to admit that his hair was very distracting the first season. I liked how they handled it.
Shows the difference between someone who can act and someone who cannot. MPG was perfect. Jimmy Fallon = FAIL. His acting was vomitous. He didn't have a clue how to pull this off.
Hahaha! Great clip. Although, all SBTB fans will know that Zack and Kelly ended up together and married at the end of the College Years.
I thought this was SO funny. It's refreshing to see a person who was in such an iconic role embrace it. Maybe he knows, unlike the others, he has a great career after Bell and knows this appearance will make him even better.
Barb, I also LOVED the whole hair angle in Raising the Bar. They never addressed his long hair in the first season, but all the people I know that watched it hated that hair. I think the show heard viewers reaction to his hair and gave us a tongue in cheek shot out last night.
Great stuff all around!
Oops, I didn't watch the entire clip before posting that last comment. lol
lol yea I loved sbtb and glad he can come out and make fun of himself its awesome
Fallon was supposed to act like he was out of it. I think he handled it well. MPG was excellent, lol. This was great
Abso-frekin'-lute-ality hysterical!
Loved the "I grew up in Indiana but then moved to California with my friend and my Principal" line. Can't believe the artist formerly known with the middle name "Amber" wouldn't be at a JF reunion, but could see Screech being a jerk, demanding money and keeping it from happening. I'll keep my fingers crossed, though.
