VIDEO: Top 10 things overheard at the 'Fire David Letterman' rally
As far as the principal parties involved -- David Letterman and Alaska Gov. Sarah Palin -- are concerned, Jokegate is over. Letterman on Monday offered a full apology for a tasteless crack about Palin's daughters, and Tuesday Palin said she accepted it "on behalf of all young women."
The detente, however, didn't stop a "Fire David Letterman" rally from taking place while Letterman taped "The Late Show" Tuesday. And Letterman got back to the business of his regular comedy, including poking fun at himself.
Hence, Tuesday's Top 10 List: "Top 10 Things Overheard at the 'Fire David Letterman' Rally." "I don't want to give away any secrets," Letterman joked, "but we sent in a mole ... [who] was able to listen to the things that were being said and collate them and come back with the top 10 things being said" at the rally.
My favorites are No. 9, "Well, it was nice of CBS to provide the catering"; and No. 2, "He should apologize for that hairpiece."
Here's the full list.

I was a Palin supporter until this grandstanding stunt of hers. What a shrew! Baby Mama's Mama better learn to take an offhand, one-liner joke without trying to twist it into some sort of insane soapbox issue, accusing a beloved TV icon of all sorts of sordid crap. Good lawd, if I lived in Alaska, I'd be so embarr***ed.
"beloved TV icon" ???? you gotta be kidding !!!
Thank you, David Letterman, for so many years of HUMOR. Keep being funny!
It's not quite over yet. Letter writing campaigns are still ongoing. And there's been at least some effect already: Emb***y Suites reportedly pulled their ads with CBS.
With 64% of the public siding with Palin on the outright inappropriateness of tasteless jokes about the children of politicians, with the apology count 2-0 in Palin's favor, and with Palin haters foaming at the mouth, again, it's pretty easy to conclude: Advantage Palin!
Sarah Palin should be glad anyone is still making jokes about her or her white trash family.
when is palin gonna be on the letterman show? during sweeps.
This was a desperate attempt by Palin to stay relevant so she can try and seek the republican nomination in 2012. The only way that will happen is if Republicans lose their minds and want a complete idiot to run against Obama. Everyone knows that Letterman was talking about the 18 year old daughter and for those that think otherwise, you should get your heads examined.
Tom: put aside the political partisanship and take a REAL look at the issue here. Letterman's WORDS target 14-year old Willow, not 18-year old Bristol, regardless of intent -- and the joke really was in bad taste because it makes ***umptions about young women and athletes in general from it.
Palin complained publicly because her children should not be targets. She is right, and not a SINGLE politician has come out to say otherwise. She said it was demeaning to women, and she was right -- you don't see any women's groups saying otherwise.
Letterman should have apologized earlier and he didn't quite do it yet in the words that he needs to (although he's close).
If Palin gets a boost from this in anyone's eyes it's because she's standing up for something she believes in -- as do, apparently, most Americans. It won't last long enough to carry into primary season, so don't worry: the American media is far too seduced by the Democrats for that to happen.
yeah Jonah, you were a Palin supporter....right.
I never saw any negative comments about Jay Leno's same type of joke against Palin last September...
"Gov. Palin announced over the weekend that her 17-year-old unmarried daughter is five months pregnant. And you thought John Edwards was in trouble before! Now he has really done it. -- "The Tonight Show With Jay Leno," 9/2/08" Letterman is the true king of late night tv
