'This Week is Death' on 'Lost': Most Hysterical

Jorgegarcia_lost_290 OK, time to lighten things up, "Lost" fans. You can only get so light when the theme is "This Week is Death," but a little morbid humor never hurt anyone. Guns, dynamite, flaming arrows, buses, meteorites...THESE might hurt you, but laughing at those that fall prey to them isn't always a bad thing. So today we're going to look at the funniest deaths in the show's run.

These are the deaths that had us gasping for air, not only due to shock but due to excessive laughter. The deaths that had us giggling despite ourselves. The deaths that made us think, "I'm going to hell for cackling right now." Given how dark the show is, it's always good to get our smile on. Usually Hurley fills that role for us, but sometimes a hysterical offing does the trick as well.

Honorable mentions: Omar, Montand, the safe house intruder that ended up on a pile of recently cleaned knives in the dishwasher

Tricia Tanaka. Tricia has the dubious distinction of being the only character in "Lost" history killed by a meteorite. And for that, we give mad props. In an episode that lightened the relentlessly dark Season 3, Tricia's death reminded us all how important a good death-from-above can be.

Leslie Arzt. Arzt might be the first character on the show designed so that the audience would be actively calling for his death. And did the show ever deliver, with an insane fake-out leaving us thinking he would successfully return from the Black Rock when all of a sudden BOOM GOES THE DYNAMITE. Hell, I'm giggling as I type this.

Neil, aka "Frogurt". We can also aka him as "Son of Arzt," in that he was another character designed to be the equivalent of nails on a chalkboard. There's a reason "Flaming Frogurt!" was one of my favorite things about Season 5.

Edmund Burke. You can argue that Edmund's death-by-bus was coincidence. You can argue that either Jacob or The Man in Black caused it. You can argue Sandra Bullock and Dennis Hopper were behind it. But you can't argue that this was fast, furious, and downright uproarious.

The Red Shirts in New Otherton. A group nomination here, in honor of the approximately 200 people that poured out of the bungalows despite Sawyer's warning to get inside, only to meet their brethren in an ever increasing pool of blood. In an otherwise flawless episode ("The Shape of Things to Come"), this was unintentionally sidesplitting.

OK, time to vote: which one morbidly tickled your funny bone the most?

If the Red Shirts Are Coming! had not made the list, Tricia Tanaka would get my vote hands down. But that scene in New Otherton had to be the funniest thing on Lost ever (though death-by-meteorite is a very close 2nd).

The deaths of the Red-Shirts gets my vote ... Sawyer telling them to get back in and they just didn't listen ... funny as hell!

at first, i was ALL about a tie between Arzt and Frogurt. but the red-shirted slip 'n slide won out in the end...

For this one, I really needed an "all of the above" option.

I think the only reason Arzt won out for me was Hurley's priceless, "You've got some... Arzt... on you," moments later. How can you not laugh at that whole scene?!

I had to vote for Artz for the same reason as Ang. Hurley's line makes me laugh everytime I think about it.

Arzt, medusa spider 8 hands down.

I almost went with Asian reporter Tricia Tanaka, but good ole Artz, I really will miss him. His 'xplosion will for ever be replayed in beautiful HD. Piece out!

No deaths involved, but hope everyone saw Darlton and other writers on Top Chef Masters. Chefs had to cook with Dharma approved ingredients. Lots of boar and canned goods, but strangely no Apollo Bars.

"You've got some...Arzt...on you" STILL makes me giggle.
