'The Hobbit': Hugo Weaving returns to Middle-earth
The Lord of Rivendell is back.
Hugo Weaving, who played hybrid elf Elrond in the "Lord of the Rings" trilogy, will reprise the role in "The Hobbit" films, according to a BBC interview.
Around the 2:10:55 mark, director Guillermo del Toro confirms the casting, which means a Tolkien reunion with Andy Serkis and Ian McKellen, Gollum and Gandalf, respectively.
Although the time in "The Hobbit" precedes the "Rings" trilogy by about 60 years (a gap that the follow up to "The Hobbit" will cover), many of these Middle-earth denizens are rather long-lived or even immortal.
The two films are scheduled for a 2011 and 2012 release.
Weaving, 49, is also known for his roles in "The Matrix" films, "V for Vendetta" and being cast in the upcoming thriller "The Wolf Man" opposite Benicio del Toro.

This article is so poorly written. I can't believe is was approved for release.
1) The article doesn't explain that the book is planned to be released in a 2 part movie format so its comment on a two film release is confusing.
2) The Hobbit is a prequel; not a sequel.
3) The general sentence structure of the article is awkward.
4) How can Mr Weaving be known for his role in an "upcoming thriller" if the movie has not been released yet and no one has seen him in it?
Ms Nguyen needs to research and compose better articles in the future.
Apparently Bob believes that he is a journalist and therefore knows the inverted pyramid.
Firstly, I'll tackle the "upcoming thriller." The word "and" is being used as a conjunction, connecting two sentences together. When I read the last sentence, I know what the writer was talking about: A and B. You have to be a complete language dingbat to not see that.
On second thought Bob... why don't you got ask Zap2It for a job so you can write better stories.
Well, I totally agree with Bob.
The parenthetical phrase was the most confusing part. I had to read it a second time to figure out that it was saying the sequel to "The Hobbit" will cover the 60 years between "The Hobbit" and LOTR. I wouldn't have understood it at all had I not already read "The Hobbit" and known that it does not cover 60 years.
I don't know about inverted pyramids, but I do know that the word "and" is not connecting two sentences together. The last sentence in the article is not compound.
Like Lynn, I understood the last sentence as it was written, but it is still technically illogical. It should say something like:
Weaving, 49, is also known for his roles in "The Matrix" films and "V for Vendetta", and he will appear in the upcoming thriller "The Wolf Man" opposite Benicio del Toro.
Honestly, I would have just read the article and said nothing, but I couldn't ignore Lynn calling Bob a dingbat when she was wrong about the "and".
I have to agree with Bob and Lilli please research your work double check if need be and make sure you are right before calling someone a dingbat.
