'The Hills': Spencer Pratt's sex tape apology to Lauren Conrad never actually happened

On Monday, "The View" welcomed "The Hills"' lunatics Heidi and Spencer Pratt, who stopped by to talk about their antics on NBC's "I'm A Celebrity... Get Me Out of Here!" But while there, the subject of Spencer's on-camera apology to Lauren Conrad -- re: sex tape rumors he supposedly started about her -- came up.

Spencer stated that he never did start those rumors, that they were not actually "rumors," but "fact," and that TMZ had confirmed this. He said he only apologized because it got Lauren to his wedding, which was Heidi's wish: "I said I'm sorry because she said, I will come to your wedding if you say I'm sorry for something I didn't even do... I apologized for something I didn't do to make somebody feel good about themselves."

Fast forward to today. Lauren was on "The View" this morning to promote her new novel "L.A. Candy" and dropped this bombshell: Spencer never actually apologized. That "I'm sorry" phone call all of us "Hills" fans watched with wide eyes? Staged!

ELISABETH HASSELBECK: SPEAKING OF NOT HAVING A GOOD TIME, WE SAW YOU AND HEIDI FROM SPEIDI FAME THERE HAVING A CONVERSATION WITH YOU (REFERRING TO CLIP). YOU WERE BEST FRIENDS ON "THE HILLS" AND SPENCER ENDED UP COMING BETWEEN YOU. THERE WERE ACCUSATIONS ABOUT A SEX TAPE, RUMORS THAT WENT AROUND. HE ENDED UP APOLOGIZING BEFORE THEIR WEDDING. YOU ENDED UP GOING TO THE WEDDING. THEY WERE HERE MONDAY. WE ASKED HIM ABOUT IT. WE SAID YOU APOLOGIZED TO LAUREN SO THINGS MUST BE OK. HE ESSENTIALLY SAID WELL I APOLOGIZED TO HER BECAUSE HEIDI WANTED HER AT THE WEDDING AND I KNEW IT WAS THE ONLY WAY TO GET HER THERE. WHAT ARE YOUR THOUGHTS ON THAT? 

LAUREN CONRAD: UM (LONG PAUSE) I MEAN..... 

EH: DID YOU FEEL LIKE IT WAS A SINCERE APOLOGY WHEN IT CAME FROM HIM? 

LC: TO THE PERFECTLY HONEST, I WASN'T ON THE OTHER LINE OF THAT CALL. 

EH: WHAT DO YOU MEAN?  

LC: THAT WAS FILMED AND I WASN'T ON THE OTHER END. 

JOY BEHAR: SO THE REALITY SHOW... 

EH: SO THE APOLOGY DIDN'T... 

LC: I DIDN'T EVEN KNOW ABOUT IT UNTIL... SO, NO, I DIDN'T GET AN APOLOGY. HE'S LYING.

SHERRI SHEPHERD: HE LIED. HE LIED.

JB: THAT'S SHOCKING! [LAUGHTER]
