Susanboyle_britainsgottalent_02_290 The burden of being an overnight sensation and remaining in the spotlight for a couple of months may have caught up to "Britain's Got Talent" runner-up Susan Boyle.

The 47-year-old singer, who finished second in the "Britain's Got Talent" finals over the weekend, checked into a hospital Sunday, according to numerous reports. The show's producers say in a statement that Boyle was exhausted and just needs some down time. "Following Saturday night's show, Susan is exhausted and emotionally drained," the statement reads. "She has been seen by her private GP who supports her decision to take a few days out for rest and recovery."

She was accompanied to the clinic by a police escort. A statement from Scotland Yard says "Police were called to doctors assessing a woman under the Mental Health Act. The woman was taken voluntarily by ambulance to a clinic. At the request of doctors, police accompanied the ambulance."

An audience of 18.5 million people -- the biggest for "Britain's Got Talent" broadcaster ITV in several years -- watched Boyle finish second in Saturday's finale to a dance group called Diversity (here's the group's finale performance, and here is Boyle's).

"Britain's Got Talent" judge Piers Morgan appeared on U.K. morning show "GMTV" Monday to say that he'd spoken with Boyle and that she simply needed to be out of the spotlight for a while.

"It has been crazy -- she has gone from anonymity to being the most downloaded woman in history," Morgan said. "She was very tired and hasn't been sleeping. She has just gone away to have some time to herself and to sleep and eat, doing all the things she hasn't been able to do in the last week."

She is such a drama queen. Not sure what her deal is, she sang the same song over and over, since she is versatile like a Madonna or a Britney, ofcourse she wasnt going to win.

Susan doesnt have the same range as Madonna or a Britney,so people will get tired of her and she will be gone like Tylor Hicks was... People want artists who are fun and know how to put on a show.

Poor woman... It must've been awfully stressful to become an overnite sensation - who basically is not used to that kind of public attention. The fact that she sang the same first song, should've been an indication of her distraught state. I salute her for doing the Finals. Wish, however, that she had won. Am NOT impressed by that dance group. But, probably the really young are - oh, well... It's the price and downside of Fame, I guess.

Poor thing, couldnt handle being famous, now she is in a hospital. She really should use Celine Dion as a role model, another ugly ducking who made it. So it can happen to her too.

the pressure put on susan b. must have been terrific. as far as i'm concerned she has won, and will become a great and everlasting success.she has sparked interest allover the globe. at this time we need more humble and talented people like her. get rested susan, and go for it. I for one will be waiting. GOOD LUCK -PAT MC.CANADA

forgot to say - I want to see more regular normal everyday people on t.v. and talent shows. l'm tired of seeing these phoney plastic face thin body people with big ego's trying to capture the hearts of normal everyday people. CONGRATULATIONS SUSAN BOYLE.

Oh yes, we are tired of seeing pretty talented people like Kelly Clarkson, Carrie Underwood and Kelli Pickler. Please bring on more uglies, who are not multi-dimensional like a J LO.

Susan was the 'chosen carrot' this year to get people to watch BGT. Unfortunately she was ill equipped to handle the sudden fame and celebrity. Hopefully she will recover fully, but should have been allowed to drop out just to keep her sanity.

Was she the most talented in this year's show? That's debatable and the public voted their preference.

This season/series had the most high level talent tryout for the show. Many question the cutdown process and seemingly unfair bracketing of talent in the semi final shows. The first semi was stacked with potential winners. Couldn't say that for the other semi finals.

In the end, they were all winners. No one can predict who will have the most successful career or if any of them have longevity.

Meow leaves the dumbest comments. Go away *****cat.

Susan is really an inspiration to people with special needs. Too bad she couldnt handle the fame and had to be hospitalized. Hopefully she will over come all this and finally release an album by the end of this year, featuring different songs than the one she keeps on singing over and over again.
