Ryanreynolds_290 Ryan Reynolds is going the indie route in his next cinematic venture, "Buried."

Rodrigo Cortes is set to direct the production that begins shooting this summer in Spain.

The funny leading man of "The Proposal" will be playing a civilian contractor that gets kidnapped while in Iraq and buried alive with just a candle, knife, and cell phone, Variety reports. (Very MacGyver, no? Or at least very "Bones" or "CSI," seeing as how both shows had main characters endure similar ordeals.)

We're assuming that this role will call for the Serious Ryan Reynolds persona of films like "Blade:Trinity"  and "The Amityville Horror" rather than the affable assistant to Sandra Bullock in "The Proposal."

The "Buried" news continues a furious run of work for Reynolds, who's already had three movies ("X-Men Origins: Wolverine" and "Adventureland" in addition to "The Proposal") in theaters this year and is scheduled to star in the "Wolverine" spinoff "Deadpool" a little farther down the line.
