Princessprotectionprogram_290 "Princess Protection Program," Disney Channel's buddy film aimed at tween girls, took home the ratings crown Friday night.

The cable network's 76th original movie had the distinction of being TV's No. 1 entertainment telecast for the year (among kids 6-11 and tweens 9-14) and Friday's No. 1 scripted telecast in its time period (8-9:45 p.m.) on both broadcast and cable TV, boasting 8.5 million total viewers.

It also nearly doubled broadcast frontrunner CBS' total viewership (4.4 million).

The movie centers on Princess Rosalinda (played by "Sonny With a Chance" star Demi Lovato) who is rescued from an attemped coup by the neighboring dictator of the fictional Costa Luna. Naturally, the Princess Protection Program (PPP) is put into effect, and Rosalinda goes into hiding and gets to live like the hoi polloi with tomboy Carter Mason ("Wizard of Wavery Place's" Selena Gomez).

While "PPP" did very well for Disney, it still was only the channel's third-highest rated original movie of all time. June 2008's "Camp Rock" (9 million viewiers), which also starred Lovato, and August 2007's "High School Musical 2" (17.2 million viewers) still kept their boasting rights.

Did you watch? Was this better or worse than "Camp Rock" or "HSM 2"? Do you like Demi and Selena?

Selena is it true you and Demi are best friends since you teens were seven?

demi, selena, u girls should make another movie, but with ALL the stars in disney channel. it would be so awesome. :P

I haven't seen Camp Rock or HSM2 in their entirety, but a few things I liked about PPP:
1. Romance isn't a big part of the storyline; friendship is.
2. How the well-meaning princess, unlike so many other well-meaning characters, doesn't come across as dumb.
3. How Carter doesn't accept that boy's request for a dance (though it bugged me that she didn't realize what a jerk he was from the start).

There are a few other things I didn't like as well, but overall I enjoyed the movie.

Thumbs up for another movie. Should consider the idea of another movie

I guess it was okay if you are 8 years old and easily entertained.
