NBC teases 'Heroes' hot cheerleader. What else is new?
So we already know that Rachel Melvin will be joining the cast of "Heroes" next season as Claire's (Hayden Panettiere) college roommate. We also know that the show is describing their relationship as one where they will "share sleeping quarters (and maybe more)."
Call us naive, but we took this to mean that Clarie's roommate probably has powers of her own because, well, that's what the show is about.
However, some others have taken this to suggest that Claire may be embarking down the road of a little same sex experimentation during her freshman year.
While "Heroes" has been known to do some predictable things to try and bring it back to its Season One glory, this really sounds desperate to us. Honestly, other than that one chaste Sweeps kiss does anyone care enough about two former soap actresses flirting with each other to set a season pass?
And, to be quite frank, we've seen "Californication." If Claire was going to be switching teams, we're pretty sure her other recently cast roommate (Madeleine Zima) would be the temptress.
What do you think? What does NBC mean by "maybe more"?

Who knows? what we do know is "Fanboys" couldn't stand seeing her with a guy so maybe this is the only way they will accept her in a relationship.
i wasn't sure who you meant by "hot cheerleader." Hayden is gross.
Claire's male fanbase is one of the reasons why this show is still on the air. Making her gay runs the risk of alienating viewers. I know I dropped Buffy cold when they retroactively made one of the characters "a little gay" (quoting the show). The fact a character was gay didn't bug me; I disliked the fact they decided to violate the character's own continuity that had been set up in the seasons prior. If they want a gay hero on this show, they'd be better off creating a brand new character, preferably using Captain Jack of Torchwood as a template of how to do it properly.
It's obvious
Hot Cheerleader refers to Claire's mother. Firechick.
So roommate is a half sister.
I agree with Brett - either they're suggesting the roommate shares a parent with Claire, or a boyfriend. Or maybe it *is* just the fact that she'll be a mutant also. Either way, reading lesbianism into it is quite a stretch.
At first I was thinking they would share Nathan as a father, but Brett's and DanC's comments make a lot of sense. Didn't they kill off Claire's mom? So maybe they thought this was a way to bring in someone with a similar fire-power.
I like the romantic rivals idea as well. Not so sure about them being siblings since they're both college freshman, meaning they're roughly the same age. Sure, Nathan could be the dad -- or they could be fraternal twins -- but since there's already the Ali Larter triplets, I think that's doubtful.
This would be a good time for "Heroes" to reboot - bring in new characters discovering their powers and the problems tht come with them and have the surviving heroes and new villains come into their lives.
NBC definitely wants people to think there is going to be some lesbian action. They wouldn't have used the term "sleeping quarters" otherwise. Seriously...who says that??? Will that be what actually happens? Probably not. But NBC is desperate to bring up the ratings for this show, which has been getting progressively worse in ratings and story.
I actually believe that, by the looks of her, Claire's Lethario Father actually had another daughter, so they are refering to her maybe sharing genepools with her, and Grandma Dearest is putting them together to see if Claire's half sister is 'Special' enough to bring into the family 'Company'
