Demetrimartin_importantthingswithdemetrimartin_290 Comedy Central has some important news: It has renewed "Important Things with Demetri Martin" for a second season.

The show, which features former "Daily Show" correspondent Martin examining things like power, brains, coolness and chairs through stand-up and sketches, will return in the first few months of 2010. The show's first season drew fairly decent ratings for the cable channel, especially in its target demo of young men.

"The uniquely creative Demetri Martin brought a great new perspective to the network, striking a chord with our viewers and becoming an immediate sensation, especially among our core young men and Gen Y," Comedy Central's Lauren Corrao says. "His talent is undeniable, and we are looking forward to more important things from Demetri in the upcoming season."

Martin, in turn, wants to thank his bosses "for extending the show's importance."

"Important Things" debuted to 2.8 million viewers in February and held most of that audience in subsequent episodes. It averaged 2.3 million viewers for its seven-episode run and led all broadcast and cable competition in its timeslot in Comedy Central's core audience of men under 35.
