Karengillan_290 As writer/producer Steven Moffat takes the reins of the "Doctor Who" series, the 11th incarnation of the Time Lord -- Matt Smith -- is getting a new traveling companion in the form of 21-year-old Scottish actress Karen Gillan.

"Funny, and clever, and gorgeous, and sexy. Or Scottish, which is the quick way of saying it," is how Moffat describes her. "A generation of little girls will want to be her. And a generation of little boys will want them to be her too."

The new season will begin filming this summer and premiere on BBC one next Spring. No word as to when it will make its way stateside.

It will most likely make it's way to America a week or two after the season (Season 31) ends there in the UK. That's how it was with the last season. So it will probably start in June or July of next year.

I'm hoping this new companion isn't from Earth, would be a nice change. An even better one would be a male companion instead.

With a 25yo Doctor & a 21yo companion, I can already feel the "X Files" like sexual tenision.

good lord! they are getting younger and younger! are they going for the Twilight demo?

I've never felt as though Doctor Who had a target audience that could be pinned down as far as age is concerned.

This makes me feel as though I'm being cut out. My son feels the same way, and he is in his early 30's. Still, no way to tell until the new Doctor actually appears.

Perhaps they might considered a second, older companion as a shout-out to the fogies in the viewing audience. Back in the olden days, the show almost always had more than one companion.
