TV ratings: 'Hung' well-endowed for HBO Sunday
"Hung" has HBO feeling the afterglow of Sunday's impressive performance and feeling sanguine about "True Blood's" continued ratings growth.
The cable network's comedy starring Thomas Jane as a cash-strapped coach-turned-gigolo premiered with 2.8 million viewers, becoming HBO's most-watched series debut since "John From Cincinnati," which got a boost from "The Sopranos" series finale in June of 2007.
Adding that to the midnight replay, "Hung" drew a total of 3.7 million viewers for its first night out.

"True Blood's" third episode received its own 3.7 million viewers at 9 p.m., which blossomed into 5.1 million once the 11 p.m. replay was through.
In its second season, the vampire drama has been outperforming its freshman season by 38 percent in weekly averages. Its current gross audience of 10.8 million viewers a week includes network airings, HBO On Demand viewership and DVR numbers.

Those numbers sound so great when you add up every possible venue the show is presented in. Of course, it only looks great when you don't realize the broadcast networks and major cable outlets don't use this kind of misleading mish-mash.
Also, look for those shows to disappear quickly from our radars only to reappear when HBO launches another promotion, as this has been the pattern for every HBO show since The Sopranos.
When your reference for a high-watched series debut is John from Cincinnati that HBO didn't even bother to renew to pretend it had a hit, you know you're on very thin PR ground.
I would like to point out to Ms Moretti that all of those viewers PAY to watch HBO and it is truly a shame that the broadcast networks don't have any programing at all that approaches the quality of that found on HBO.She actually sounds like a PR hack of the Networks.Good Job HBO!!
Hey Rena, you might want to check the "trending topics" column on Twitter. All the Sunday showings of True Blood get serious buzz in the Twitterverse. As an unofficial gauge of continued viewer interest, Twitter is significant. True Blood is HOT. Shut up and deal with it!
Hey Rena, the reason that the premiere of John From Cincinnati had such high ratings was because it premiered after the FINALE OF THE SOPRANOS! Do your homework.
