CBS' 'Three Rivers' wants to get 'warmer'
CBS' new drama "Three Rivers," which is set in Pittsburgh, has decided not to film there. Instead, the show will set up shop at Paramount Studios in the middle of L.A., and attempt to re-create the Steel City hospital where the pilot filmed on a soundstage.
The idea, a source close to the show tells the LA Times Showtracker blog, is to open up the show visually -- since the pilot filmed in a working hospital, the production was restricted to certain areas -- and make it "warmer" (insert reference to star Alex O'Loughlin's hotness here).
Having more room to roam could also pave the way to expanding the cast. Executive producer Carol Barbee is hoping to add some recurring characters, mainly other doctors and a social worker, to go along with the core group of six regulars. One of the new characters may be a love interest for O'Loughlin's workaholic transplant surgeon.
The cast also includes Katherine Moennig, Daniel Henney, Justina Machado and Christopher J. Hanke; Julia Ormond was in the pilot, but her role is being recast.
Something about the combination of CBS and O'Loughlin seems to result in the revamping of shows. After CBS picked up "Moonlight" two years ago, it scrapped the original pilot presentation and recast nearly everyone around O'Loughlin. The changes on "Three Rivers," though, are shaping up to be less drastic.

I can't wait to see Alex as Andy Yablonski in Three Rivers. I believe the revamping of the show will make it better
CBS knows they have a very talented actor and they seem to be committed to making full use of him. Alex has a very large fan base and that should be boon for all involved.
And we get more Alex!! Yippee!
MORE of Alex O'Loughlin is always a really, really, really good thing for television as well as us...the fans!!! Warmer sounds like a great plan to me!
That's a shame. Shows that actually film on location (rather than Hollywood) have a fresh look and feel about them, and also offer job opportunities in the surrounding community.
And BTW, they're moving the show to L.A. to make it "warmer". Warmer? It's set in Pittsburgh, you donuts.
already flailing, i don't think it bodes well for this new show. Sorry Alex, still hoping to see you on a good show again someday.
Pittsburgh won the Stanley Cup & the Superbowl, so in a town of winner why would they want a show that won't last one season?
There is a hospital near by in Aliquippa that UPMC once owned and did nice job redecorating, sitting vacant since closed down last year, they could have used that and it would have cost a lot less in production...plus would have been able to shoot locally in the city...what a missed opportunity for all.
Check-out the comments on CBS website, shows, Three Rivers. Good to see that CBS is trying to improve the show before it's first airing instead of tweaking it after it airs. You only get one chance to pull audiences in. The pilot is critical. If they whiffle this, they would have blown it big time and wasted everyone's time. Failure should not be an option. Alex worked hard on Moonlight that should not have been cancelled. If CBS fails on this, that sucking sound will be audiences leaving in droves.
does anyone know when the fall season for CBS actually begins? im just curious cuz i want alex back on my TV. im stuck for right now on youtube watching moonlight episodes and stuff that hes done. lol. i guess im an alex junkie.
