Casting Call: Noah Wyle, Jeri Ryan head to TNT
Noah Wyle is jumping back into the TV pool, signing on to star in a sci-fi pilot for TNT that Steven Spielberg is executive producing.
The project will star Wyle as the leader of a group of soldiers and civilians who mount a resistance against an alien invasion force. Spielberg -- who also executive produced "ER," the show that gave Wyle his big break -- conceived the idea with writer Robert Rodat ("Saving Private Ryan"), who is penning the pilot.
Wyle has previously starred in TNT's series of "Librarian" movies and played Apple co-founder Steve Jobs in the cable channel's 1999 movie "Pirates of Silicon Valley."
"I am overjoyed to continue my association with TNT on this new project," he says. "We have a long-standing relationship spanning four projects, and I couldn't feel more at home."
Spielberg and Rodat will executive produce the pilot with Justin Falvey and Darryl Frank of DreamWorks Television. There's no word yet on a start date.
Also at TNT, Jeri Ryan has taken a recurring role on second season of "Leverage," according to The Hollywood Reporter.
Ryan, who starred in CBS' "Shark" from 2006-08, will play a con artist who helps Sophie (Gina Bellman) on a job and gets pulled into the team.
Her other TV credits include "Star Trek: Voyager," "Boston Public" and a recurring part on "The O.C."

It's a great move by Leverage to try and save the show as Jeri Ryan has a history of being hired to try and save failing shows.
Unless the show is m***ively revamped (firing a couple of the poor actors supporting Mr. Hutton may be a good place to start), I don't think it will be enough.
I'm always excited to see Jeri Ryan, but I think Leverage was a solid show (not every episode worked, but few series can say they have perfect shows). It certainly won't hurt to add Ryan to the show, but I don't agree with Rena at all about the show needing a m***ive revamping.
Jeri Ryan is a useful idiot - her sealed divorce records suddenly became public knowledge in Chicago totally ruining her husband's political campaign so that Obama could win his Senate seat.
Leverage is more than fine without her.
Wylie is another useful idiot with his public service announcement about the ice melting and polar bears having no place to live.
He must be a total dope to buy into that junk science BS. So I guess it's fitting his next role would be Science Fiction.
I have to disagree with Rena Moretti, I thought Leverage was great the first season, and I think the whole cast was well-chosen. That being said, I think Jeri Ryan should make a fun addition to the crew, part- or full-time.
I thought Leverage was great the first season except for the female part of the cast, especially the ditzy blonde acrobat. If Jeri Ryan were taking her place, I'd be fine with it.
I'm pretty surprised that anybody thinks the show NEEDS to be saved.
I am so glad that I am not the only one who remembers the fiasco jerri ryan participated in-her track record ie Boston Public the show should be doa unless she can find a producer to sleep with ie star trek voyager
Wyle's show sound's like a ripoff of the upcoming "V"
what? the ditsy blond? come on. Parker was awesome. brought such a great humor to the show. she is a fave! get a clue, the show was great in season 1... and doesn't need any semi-big guest stars.
I love Jeri Ryan and I think leverage is a great show and I think she'll blend well with the current cast. I definitely would not change the current cast. They're all great characters. As to anyone who might think she was responsible for her husband's political problems. You're nuts! She was the victim, her husband should be held responsible for his own actions. Can you imagine that jerk running for pres instead of Obama??? OMG! He could have ridden the republican backlash to the white house just like Obama did. That's scary!
I've known Jeri Ryan since she was Lynn Zimmerman at Northwestern. She is a very smart, cl***y, funny and kind woman. To personally attack her character based on things you've only read about is rude and pathetic.
