Jasonlee_mynameisearl_290 So much for those talks about TBS bringing "My Name Is Earl" back to life.

The cable channel and 20th Century Fox TV, which produced the show, had begun discussing ways to revive "Earl" earlier this week, following NBC's decision last month not to bring it back for a fifth season. Thursday, though, the studio took the somewhat unusual step of releasing a statement that those talks didn't result in anything positive.

Money was the sticking point, with the studio saying "we simply could not make the economics work" without "seriously undermining" the content of the show.

"Earl" won five Emmys over its four seasons -- including honors for writing and directing after season one and for supporting actress Jaime Pressly after season two -- and earned star Jason Lee a pair of Golden Globe nods.

Here's the full statement from the studio:

"[Creator] Greg Garcia's brilliant 'My Name is Earl' kept America laughing for the past four seasons and certainly deserved to continue for many more. While we had hoped to find a way to produce additional episodes for TBS, in the final analysis we simply could not make the economics work without seriously undermining the artistic integrity of the series. As none of us, Greg included, want the show to go out on anything but a high note, we regret that we must put to rest any speculation that 'Earl' will continue. We are grateful to everyone at TBS for their enthusiasm for the series and wish to offer our heartfelt thanks to the cast and crew of 'My Name is Earl' for their incredible work."

Just so sad to hear of this news and thank NBC for destroying yet another one of their good shows. And yet they keep their management intact over there and for what? I hope they love finishing in 5th place then.

you would think fox could make a finale for dvds and sell that ep to tbs

R.I.P. NBC. It's been a most painful death to have to watch.

I'm really not surprised by NBC's move to cancel My Name Is Earl. NBC does stand for Nothing But Crap and there decision to cancel this wonderful show is the proof!

My Name is Earl was a pathetic show. 30 Rock rokks!

Earl was the victim of the Decision to Move Leno to 10pm. WTF NBC WTF

If the actors weren't demanding so much money, the show probably wouldn't have been cancelled.

I loved this show at first but they just lost their direction and ran out of good ideas.

Bman,

I disagree, I think the show was really excellent last season returning to much of the form it had in it's first 2. It just wasn't going to be popular enough in that time slot to succeed.

Mike,

I don't know how anyone who likes comedy, especially the brand practiced on 30 Rock, could look at this show and claim it was pathetic. It's not an either/or thing. I love both of these comedies along with the Office, HIMYM, Big Bang Theory, Rules of Engagement, Better Off Ted, Scrubs. I even liked Kath and Kim.

In my opinion, there's not enough good comedy on TV. So even though the show was not perfect, I will miss it's quirkiness, over the top comedy and snarkiness.

It deserved better.

Earl was one of the last 2 sitcoms I recorded/watched, along with The Office. None of the other sitcoms currently on tv appeal to me. I don't watch 30 Rock because I'm not a fan of Tina Fey; I never really liked her or Amy Poehler on SNL.
