Actor Johnny Palermo dies in car accident

Johnny Palermo, a young actor with a string of TV credits to his name, has died in a car accident.

Palermo, 27, and his girlfriend, Alessandra Giangrande, who was driving, were killed in the accident early Monday in Los Angeles, when their vehicle lost control and hit parking meters and a light pole before crashing into a building. Giangrande's brother, who was a passenger, survived but suffered serious injuries, according to a number of news reports.

The cause of the accident is under investigation.

Palermo was a regular on the Nickelodeon series "Just for Kicks" and had a recurring part on "Everybody Hates Chris." He also guested on more than a dozen shows, including "ER," "How I Met Your Mother" and "CSI: Miami."

Funeral services will be held in Webster, N.Y., Palermo's hometown.
