Will Ferrell brings 'Celebrity Jeopardy!' back to 'Saturday Night Live'

Willferrell_celebrityjeopardy_290 One of Will Ferrell's most enduring skits from his years on "Saturday Night Live" has to be "Celebrity Jeopardy!" Watching Ferrell's Alex Trebek face off against Darrell Hammond's Sean Connery was often the bright spot on some lackluster shows.

No surprise, then, that one of the few bright spots of Ferrell's return for the May 16 season finale was a new installment of "Celebrity Jeopardy!" Hammond and Ferrell were funny in their now-familiar roles, but more impressive was Tom Hanks, reminding us he got his start in comedy. Plus, a great surprise guest shows up near the end.

Warning: There's some raunchy stuff in here. Sensitive viewers may want to turn elsewhere.

Were you watching the same sketch I was?! All I kept saying over and over was "This isn't funny!" I just kept waiting for Ferrell to finally lose it and beat Hammond to death, or Wiig to just knock herself unconscious so I wouldn't have to listen to her anymore. Apparently, Hanks did it to get himself out of the travesty for a few minutes. I guess he knew what the viewers at home knew five minutes earlier: This lame joke wore out its welcome a looong time ago.
PS- Norm MacDonald has never been funny. That's why he got fired from the show in the first place. Lorne should just recreate the cliffhanger he did in 1985 when he set the studio on fire and "saved" Dennis Miller and Jon Lovitz, but this time just save Kenan Thompson. He is the only funny guy on the show now. So sad.

I saw some of it. It's sad what entertainment is, now. George W. Bush? Again? I didn't see the whole show, but it sounds like they didn't do any Pelosi jokes. I don't care if they think Waterboarding is toture, really. It's just a bunch of people who think the same doing the same jokes over and over again.

If you were to approach me five years ago and tell me that SNL would be hosted first by Justin Timberlake and the next week by will Ferrell -- and then ask me which of the two shows was the funny one? I'd think it was insane that JT's show would have far more comedy that Ferrell's. But think about it: Did he really do anything funny on the show? He was the perpetual straight-man as Alex Trebek. He played a generic part in an ensemble sketch -- as well as a forgettable character, "Mark," in the TNT Basketball sketch. The fake ad was a repeat from years back. The "Goodnight Saigon" sketch? Only memorable because of the many cameos. (What was Artie Lange doing there, anyway? Does he have a role in Land of the Lost?)

JT, however, will do anything for the show. He'll make fun of himself for the benefit of the audience. His show certainly blew this one away.

Rumor has it that this is Darell Hammond's last show. The last sketch of the was the greatest sketch ever. Will Ferrell singing Aerosmith's "Fall Toghether" with an ensomble of cameos. One of the special guest cameos on the show was Artie Lange. This is the first time that a former MadTV cast member goes on SNL. He was on the MadTv series finale the same night, but that was taped back in late March. Howard Stern is going to taking about this on Monday. Other cameos included Norm MacDonald, Maya Rudolph, Paul Rudd, and Tom Hanks. Darell was all dressed up at the end of the show makes me think Darrel Hammond is done with SNL. He has been on the show longer than any SNL cast member from 1995 to 2009. MadTv and Talkshow with Spike Feresten are gone which shows that no one can take out SNL.

Andrew, that's not an Aerosmith song. That's a Billy Joel song. Wow.

The show was mostly mediocre, Wiig was terrible as always, and Poehler needs to stay the heck off the show. She's the worst! JT's was definitely better last week. But at least this week had a great musical guest instead of the tripe from last time.

I heard Artie Lange made a cameo. It was also MAD TV's last show ever. That show, for me, ended after season 2. It was great up until then.

That's my White Mama.

SNL, well you can't really compare it to early 90s stuff, that stuff was just to good.

Ah, Tom Hanks as Tom Hanks.

Where was he last season? As for Norm MacDonald, I think he's funny, but only as Norm MacDonald and not as any of his celebrity impressions (especially Burt Reynolds).

Sad as it may be, R U Joking may be right as Keenan Thompson is probably the funniest young gun on the show. Though I do like Will Forte and Jason Sudeikis in small doses as well. Bill Hader seems out of place and Fred Armisen is just David Paterson (very wrong, but very hilarious).

It is a Billy Joel song but it's not called "Fall Together". It's called "Goodnight Saigon".

That was hillarious. I almost ****ed my pants. I wish Hanks would stop trying to fill up a house full of Oscars, and return to comedies. His brand of comedy, along with Steve Martin, is sorley missed. I don't want to attack other commenters, but Kenan Thompson is funny, really? I have never found that man funny, maybe an entertaining voice in 'sit down, shut up'. Wiig is going to carry that show in the next couple of seasons. Her Kathy Lee is great and spot on, and when she does that 'just kidding' bit, I cry every time. She is magnificent at times. Amy Poehler is one of the best female players of all time, just behind Gilda Radner. Armisen, Forte, Hader, and Samberg are great on the show. Moynihan and Elliot are funny and are going to come out on their own soon. Meyers only became funny as Weekend Update anchor this year, but I wish he would throw his pencil at the end of the segment. JT is funny when he does "SNL Digital Shorts,' but he rarely has a good skit. The best host this decade is Walken. Walken is the only host who carries his own skits 'The Continental.' SNL in the last three years has been great and keeps getting better. I miss the early '90s, but SNL is starting to get real Sketch Artists and not just writers with television friendly faces.
