VIDEO: 'The Middle' first look
Patricia Heaton returns to television in another mother role -- this time as the mom of a middle-class Indiana family. She's joined by "Scrubs" mainstay Neil Flynn.
With the recession, it looks as if ABC is keeping it all about family. Nothing wrong with that, but if everyone is doing it, how does one stand out from the pack? Maybe by resembling a longtime hit show like "Malcolm in the Middle?" Perhaps...but make your own judgement call on "The Middle." Here's a sneak peek...

I got annoyed by that little kid from just a one minute clip. I don't know what a whole 22 mins will do to me. Dewey on Malcolm was much better (if that's even his name, I don't remember anymore). Sorry, Janitor.
I don't know, the note in the mouth bit was funny.
It might take a while not to see Flynn as "The Janitor" though.
I guess the fact that I used to refer to the original show as "Morons in the Middle" would make me biased as to judging this show at this point.
