'The Office's' Mindy Kaling to develop her own NBC comedy series

Mindykaling You can say a lot of things about NBC and Universal Media Studios right now, but -- God bless 'em -- they know a funny girl when they see one.

Signing "The Office"'s Kelly Kapoor -- aka Mindy Kaling -- to a two-year, seven figure (she's rich!) deal, Kaling will continue to write for and appear on "The Office" while developing her own potential comedy series... just like Amy Poehler and Tina Fey.

Any brilliant ideas for her? Kaling's a talent we know well, so let's brainstorm. What would she do best?

I would love to see Mindy play somebody smarter than Kelly, but still get into wacky situations. Maybe a show where she gets to skewer pop culture and celebrities like Cho/Griffin/Lampanelli - but clean enough for NBC to broadcast.

Kelly. Spinoff. Now.

I agree, her Kelly character in any setting would be HIGH-larious. This is one talented, funny lady. Kudos to NBC for recognizing it.

BTW, that's not to diminish the talents of Mindy's Office co-stars...Phyllis, Angela, Meredith and the guys are hysterical, as well. Love 'em all.

kelly and darryl would be a good show.

I think its great for her, but it shows how stunted the creative department at NBC is that they keep having to resort to just sort of giving TV shows to in-house talent.

Hey maybe now she won't be house poor.

Excellent news! Whatever she does it will be full of the funny.

I agree that something based around a pop culture theme or perhaps a relationship theme would be good for her. On the Office, when Kelly explained how "Netflicks" worked to Ryan...that was just cl***ic!
