Oprah's chicken run: KFC riot stories exaggerated
Oprah Winfrey promised free chicken, and folks wanting a taste of the feathered friend cried fowl when they were denied the treat in a New York City KFC Wednesday. It appears that the fast-food chain ran out of the new grilled chicken.
"Some customers were upset because they couldn't get their chicken, but there was no riot," KFC spokesperson Laurie Schalow told the AP.
Oh no! Oprah.com had offered coupons for a full KFC meal: two pieces of grilled chicken, two sides and a biscuit. Oprah + free food = madness. Not to worry though. The Manhattan KFC will be restocked, and the coupons will still be honored.
After enjoying so many free meals in the past few weeks from various establishments (Ben & Jerry's, El Pollo Loco, Chik Fil A, etc.), people have started to feel entitled to not pay to eat. Cluck that.

I went to 3 KFC's last night to redeem coupon. They said they were not taking the coupons. Called Harpo and they said it was up to KFC to honor the coupons. I advised that they should post that.
KFC phone line is always busy.
It is a scam.
It does say on the coupon "at participating KFC restaurants". I got my free meal yesterday during lunch, so it's not a scam.
Its not a scam...I downloaded the coupons with no problem took it to my local KFC and got my free meal. Sure there were long lines. But how generous of Oprah and KFC to give out so many free meals. It is unfortunate that the media focus's on the bad instead of the good. So what if Oprah was woman of the year for PETA. I don't see PETA giving out any "FREE" food or trying to help families in need.
In Hawaii they haven't acknowledged them at all. They just say " This is Hawaii" and turn you down.

My laptop wouldn't download the coupon printer software. Anti-virus blocked it because of the adware program it was trying to download.
As someone who worked at a KFC for a couple years and had to see my old friends and co-workers get worked to the bone last night when I went for a meal, I have to say it's kind of irresponsible for someone who has America's ear as much as Oprah not to notify KFC chains beforehand that she was going to mention the coupons on her show. Chicken is ordered roughly three times a week, so even a 48-hour heads-up would have been more than enough time for management to order more food and increase the shifts. Why not send a quick fax to the PR department? It's really nice what she is doing, but everyone forgets about the employees who are getting completely inundated.
