Is FOX trying to Peacock-block NBC's upfront?
If you find yourself to be an entertainment journalist on Monday, May 4, 2009 at 1 p.m. ET you are probably going to have your attention focused on the 90-minute NBC "in" front presentation of their fall schedule to the press.
Or will you?
In the span of an hour-and-a-half on Friday (May 1) morning, FOX sent out invites to two conference calls happening at the exact same time as NBC's dog and pony show.
First with the mysterious Alpha who will be revealed on tonight's "Dollhouse" and then one with "Glee" creator Ryan Murphy
A spokesperson for the network swears it's "just a coincidence" and that they're now looking to push the "Glee" call to later in the day.
But it's exactly these kinds of things that make FOX (and the TV industry in general) so ... entertaining ... to us.

The people at Fox are such jerks. Just have your meeting after or before the NBC meeting. They are on life support as it is; let them have their infronts. Next thing you know, they will air American Idol 6 days a week, year around, to destroy everyone's schedule.
If Fox is on life support, then NBC must be six feet under.
NBC doesn't have a single series that averages over 10 million viewers on a weekly basis. Compare that to Fox's shows that do: "American Idol", "House", "24", and "Fringe".
Fox's Thursday line-up of "Bones" and "Hell's Kitchen" usually does just as well or better than NBC's so-called critically acclaimed comedy line-up.
And concerning "Idol", we all know that NBC - or any network - would take it in a minute if Fox decided they didn't want it, so don't kid yourself.
While I don't like the idea of kicking someone (or a broadcast network) when they are down, it is kind of funny that Fox is attempting to steal some of NBC's upcoming press coverage.
Wait - there's a conference call happening with the character "Alpha" from Dollhouse? Isn't that good news on the Dollhouse front, or am I missing something?
Naw - It would be just like Fox to make a big deal out of an interview with Alpha, even though they had already decided to cancel Dollhouse.
Remember the "big event" with the "smash hit" series FIREFLY where we would see "how it all began!"
That was when they showed the pilot as the final episode and then canceled the series.
Fox is like a company run by drunken children. On a sugar rush...
"Fox is like a company run by drunken children. On a sugar rush ..."
You say that like it's a bad thing.
NBC sucks, there I said it.
Billie - I'm pretty sure who me? meant that NBC is on life support.
Fox is run by different people now than when Firefly was ridiculously mishandled. Not to say that they still haven't made some crazy stupid moves, but it gives me hope that this Alpha thing is a good sign. Maybe it's a thing to see if it draws a big crowd that they should keep the show... *hopes*
yeah, well its not surprising because people like Billie clearly don't get it. "NBC's so-called critically acclaimed comedy line-up" is exactly that - a line up of smart, intelligent, funny, well written, quality shows. However, most Americans choose to watch mindless drivel like the mental midgets that they are. So who's fault is that? Hey, this is America! A free country where we're all free to choose what to watch and America has chosen crap over quality and we don't cut and run, we stand by our choices, god damn it. And that's how we all lose!
The problem still comes from none of these networks airing re-runs during the summer anymore.
If they would, there is a chance new viewers would flock to their channel the following Fall after getting hooked on shows they saw in the summer re-runs.
Okay nobody cares about total viewers, they only care about the Demo 18-49. If you don't believe me, look at how much commerical prices are for some of NBC shows and compare them to some of CBS shows. Then go look at their total viewers to their demo number.
