'How I Met Your Mother': Stella's back, but why? I've got answers

Sarahchalke If you watched "How I Met Your Mother" last night, you listened while Ted Mosby waxed philosophical about fate and destiny, all within the context of meeting his kids' mom.

And then Stella (Sarah Chalke) popped up.

You remember Stella. Ted's ex-fiancee. The one that left him on their wedding day? You know, so she could run away with her daughter's dad.

Yeah, she's back.

But, as you and the TV bloggers of the world are asking, why?

Is she the mom, as Ted's Bob Saget-voiced voice over from the future seemed to be leading us to believe?

Has she broken up with her karate suit-wearing baby daddy to be with Ted?

Um, no.

Stella and Tony are still very much together. Jason Jones -- the dude who plays Stella's baby daddy -- told me so when I spoke with him on set during the filming of next week's episode. Yep, that's right. Directly behind Stella, on that street corner where Ted has just ran into her, is her better half, Tony. And the site of the happy couple may just make Ted weep.

But who can blame the guy? Both his career and his personal life are pretty much non-existent at the moment.

However, as Jones explained, Tony may be able to turn at least one of those things around for him. "We bump into Ted and I feel extremely bad about stealing his girl and I try to make amends by throwing some cash at it," he told me.

In fact, I think Tony knows someone who may be in need of an architect... an eccentric sort of dude whom he'll hook Ted up with... though I doubt it's really going to work out.

But, Ted was going on and on about his kids never being born if he hadn't run into Stella that day, so what's up with that?

Well, as Sarah Chalke said during a break from shooting, she and Ted will get some closure during next week's episode. They'll talk and work a few things out. So maybe all Ted's yammering last night was just about him finally moving on and being open to meeting the mother of his children.

Or, perhaps, Stella will play an even bigger part in Ted Mosby meeting his soul mate.

Either way, word is, we'll be getting a significant clue as to where his journey ends in this year's finale, which airs the week after next.

When I brought this clue stuff up to Josh Radnor, he said, "More like coordinates. We're getting coordinates." And a goat. "Yes, there will be a fight with a barnyard animal in the finale," Radnor revealed.

Is this goat related to the big clue/coordinates coming our way? We shall see soon enough...

I love the show. The intervention scene caught me off guard and I almost fell off the couch! I like when they reference to previously stablished gimmicks. That's what makes this show so relatable and strong.

Plus, I'm amazed at how a seemingly simple comedy can have a thicker plot than 'Lost' these days!

Great episode last night, the fact that marshall had charts for the actual intervention was great, I thought that the woman at the news stand was gonna ask him for the time, preventing him from getting crushed by a car. But nope, its stella, screw her. Lol @ this having a deeper plot than LOST, LOST has a deep plot that weak minds obviously can't put their mind around, its the most well thought out show on TV, what you would call plot holes are intentional mysteries answered later on in the series, show patience

As much as I like "Stella", i was really hoping it wasn't her...thanks for the update!

So glad it's not stella!! I was disapointed to learn it may have been her...but we all know Ted deserves better then someone that left him at the alter!

i was surprisied to see stella, was so hoping for Victoria.. but i will keep faith she will be back on here. i thought she could have been the one!

That episode ****ed me off...i was so glad we were finally gonna see who momma is and then (slap in the face) its the same freaking girl!!?!?!.. so he's supposed to be telling his kids all these stories, right? So how did hte kids not know it was their mother when he talked about her the first time.. i donno ..i love the show but i just wanted it to be someone else.

Um who the hell is Korbi and why the hell do we care what she thinks?

Bye bye NORMAN. Not welcome here. This wasn't even an opinion article. What are you talking about. Those of us who enjoy Korbi every day don't need you raining on our parade.

I love this show, However, I have my own theory..I think Robin will have twins(the two kids on the couch) and let Ted raise them with his soon to be wife (dont know yet who) and that's the reason they call her "AUNT Robin" just a theory..

As much as I love Sarah Chalke, so glad she's not the mother. I am very curious to know how Ted seeing her again fits into how he did meet the the mother of his kids. I do hope the big clue/coordinates/whatever they're teasing will be something good to lead up to next season. This season of HIMYM has been great - also looking forward to more Barney/Robin stuff too!
