'Fringe' reveals: What's coming up...
Answers, answers... lots of effing answers. That's what the actors and writers from "Fringe" say is coming up in the final few episodes of the season. We're going to discover things about Peter -- in fact, John Noble (Walter) called the Peter reveal "shocking" and "major" -- Olivia, the Pattern, Massive Dynamics and the Observer.
I mean, Peter has been somewhat of a mystery to viewers all year. Of the
main three characters, he's been the least developed, but there's clearly more to him than meets the eye. We know that he's been a
part of Walter's experiments, but to what extent?
Joshua Jackson (Peter) shares
the fans'
curiosity about his character. "For the longest time," he explained, "I thought [Peter]
was [Walter], cloned. That's still possible. I thought maybe I was some
cousin of the Observer, but I don't think that's the case. I thought
for a while I was going to be William Bell and [Nina Sharp]'s son whom [Walter] adopted. But the
truth is, nothing's been revealed yet."
However, according to Joshua, this season is really more about uncovering Olivia's story and why she's now with the Fringe team.
There have already been a few major revelations re: Olivia -- including her "special" abilities, a result of the experimentation Walter and William exposed her to as a kid -- but we're getting some more critical information before the season is over. "We meet another [test] subject, so we put together a little more information about her childhood," Anna Torv (Olivia) told me. "[And Olivia] finds out that Walter was around [when she was tested]. There's this really lovely scene where she confronts Walter, because he has all this information and she can't get any access, and this is her life. That whole thing is kind of heart breaking. I don't know, and Olivia doesn't really know what happened."
Will the discovery that Walter did these experiments on her have a longstanding impact on their relationship? "I think it can't not [change the Walter and Olivia dynamic]," Anna admitted. "And I don't know how far they are going to take that, but I love that through line."
Also, we must talk about The Pattern. The Pattern -- and those little clues before the commercial breaks -- will be playing a part in the finale. When I mentioned to executive producers Alex Kurtzman and Roberto Orci that a fan claimed to have cracked the code, and mentioned a few of the words the cracked code spelled, all they would say is that it would play into the final episode. When I told e.p. J.J. Abrams what Alex and Roberto had told me, the only thing he would say on the subject was "perhaps." Which I'm pretty sure is J.J.-speak for "yes, you're on the right track."
And, of course, Walter's former partner, William Bell, is going to be popping up on the show in the form of Leonard Nimoy. J.J. shared that while William does, at first, just pop up this season, he will have a critical role next year.
"What we don't know is whether [William]'s good or bad," Kurtzman and Orci teased.
But based on the tape that Walter found a couple weeks back, it certainly seems like William might be more of the "bad" partner in the relationship, doesn't it?

Or maybe Dr. Bishop was the bad one?
Thanks for this! I'm really looking forward to these last few eps & season finale .. it's been a good first season. And it's so nice that, even before the SF, we know that it got a 2nd season pickup!!
Thanks for the Fringe scoop! Last night's episode was fantastic - I can't wait for the season finale!
This show has gotten better as it's gone along. I'm excited to see Leonard Nimoy on this show, but actually would have been even more excited if they'd kept it a secret until his episode aired. Either way, I'll take him any way I can get him.
I love Fringe. Walter and Peter's relationship and their characters are my fav part of the series.
