'Flash Forward' goes forward at ABC
"Flash Forward," a high-concept ABC series that's already being promoted on the air, has received its official pickup for next season.
ABC pulled the trigger on the series late Friday, giving "Flash Forward" a 13-episode order for the 2009-10 season, the showbiz trade papers say. It's the second early pickup of a new show for the network, following on the heels of an order for the comedy "Modern Family" on Thursday.
ABC will announce its full lineup for 2009-10 at its upfront on Tuesday, May 19.
The pickup for "Flash Forward" is no surprise at all, considering ABC is already running promos for it -- short spots with fleeting images and the words "What did you see?" during the past two episodes of "Lost." It's also had a series commitment attached to it for much of its development cycle.
The show is based on a novel by Robert J. Sawyer and follows the aftermath of a global event in which everyone on the planet passes out for two minutes. During the collective blackout, everyone sees a vision of their future.
The cast includes Joseph Fiennes, Sonya Walger, John Cho, Courtney B. Vance and Christine Woods. David S. Goyer ("Batman Begins") and Brannon Braga ("24," "Star Trek: Voyager") created the show.

I'll go out on a limb and say I'll watch this show b/c of Brannon Braga's involvement,as creator, and b/c I so enjoyed Star Trek: Voyager. It also stars Ralph Fiennes' brother Joseph and I'll never forget him staring as Will Shakespeare along side Gwyneth Paltrow (her Oscar winning performance) in the brilliant Shakespeare In Love.
I'll give the show a chance but, by my thinking, Brannon Braga's involvement is a strike against it. Voyager was the worst of the Treks and Threshold was a bad joke.
**John** though I may not receive a reply from this post (it's Sunday, May 10 @ 3:09 pm Atlanta, GA time), but of the two Star Trek series: Voyager and the last, Enterprise, which would you say was the worst considering Voyager ran longer, had stronger fan base/support, and was not canceled whereas Enterprise, my least favorite, did not receive a whole lot of fan support and critically, was not well received and was canceled. You may be on to something: just b/c an actor/actress/producer found success with one project, doesn't gaurantee them success with all subsequent projects as they are only good as the last successful project they were attached. I will give this "Flash Forward" a look see and hopefully, I'll get hooked. That's exactly what happened with me and "Chuck" on NBC.
I think it looks interesting
I want to watch but won't because ABC will cancel it as soon as I get hooked. I won't put myself throught that with ABC again.
Flash Forward sounds interesting, but I too confess that the involvement of Brannon Braga makes me nervous.
I never got too attached to Enterprise. It's rationalizing Vulcans and so on were a little too different from Star Trek for me. But that's not the same thing as being badly written. Enterprise wasn't garbage until Manny Coto took over.
Also, Threshold was easily the best of the 9/11 scifi series. Braga's record is pretty good.
Braga is merely anathema to internet cliques fixated on the abominable Ron Moore. Those people somehow ignore the presence of David Goyer on Threshold and Flash Forward. Personally I think Goyer is the weak link there, but apparently most people think Dark Knight Returns was Oscar caliber material!
even people pursuing Moore's vendetta for him should pay attention to Flash Forward, which is the most promising scifi coming up.
Well said, Stephen!
I wuld be excited about this if not for the fact both Brannon Braga and David Goyer are involved.
I find Mr. Goyer's work to be completely uninteresting and while I dislike Ron "Mr. Hype" Moore more because of the incredible bad film making of Battlestar Galactica, Brannon Braga was part of the duet that essentially killed Trek (J.J. Abrams only buried it!)
Brannon Braga doesn't fill me with any confidence - sorry!
And Enterprise was much better with Manny Coto...ok, probably ignoring the 3rd season! But, the fourth season was much better than the previous three seasons.
Also - there's nothing wrong with Battlestar Galactica, I think Ron Moore did a fantastic job.
I also think the new Trek film was definitely a welcome return to form (compared to the last few films!).
I wont bother getting too attached. ABC's spineless slugs that they are, have probably already cancelled it.
