Dom DeLuise dies at 75

Dom_290 Dom DeLuise, the funnyman who appeared in numerous Mel Brooks and the "Cannonball Run" films, has died. He was 75.

DeLuise passed away peacefully in his sleep around 6 p.m. in a Los Angeles hospital, reports TMZ.com.

Early in his career, the Italian-American actor often co-starred with Burt Reynolds in the "Cannonball Run" films, "Smokey and the Bandit II," "The End," "The Best Little Whorehouse in Texas" and even as voices for animated canines in "All Dogs Go to Heaven."

DeLuise also collaborated with Mel Brooks on a number of projects including "Blazing Saddles," "Spaceballs," "Robin Hood: Men in Tights," "Silent Movie," "The Twelve Chairs" and "History of the World, Part I."

Besides the "All Dogs Go to Heaven" movies, he's voiced several other animated works including "The Secret of NIMH," "Oliver & Co.," "An American Tail," "Duck Dodgers," "The Wild Thornberries" and "Hercules." He's also known for hawking Ziploc bags, stumbling upon Kermit singing "The Rainbow Connection" in "The Muppet Movie", appearing as himself as a special guest star on "Scooby-Doo" and hosting "Candid Camera."

He also made a name for himself in the culinary world, authoring several cookbooks.

DeLuise was the father of actors Peter, David and Michael DeLuise with his wife Carol Arthur.

My favorite Dom DeLuise movie is Fatso. It's a very over looked movie. He and Anne Bancroft (who wrote and directed it) were hysterically funny.

I guess it helps if you're an Italian-American New Yorker (which I am) to enjoy it.

Dom was one of the biggest stars when i was little. he was really fun and seemed genuinely sweet. RIP.
