CW insider says 'Gossip Girl' spin off still very much alive
Though the gossip on the "Gossip Girl" spin off is, as I reported yesterday, that the series will not make it to your TV this fall, a network insider tells me this rumor is preposterous.
The CW doesn't begin scheduling meetings until next week and that's when the decisions are actually made.
So why has talk surrounding the buzzed-about project suddenly turned negative? I'm hearing that The CW's development slate -- including the "Melrose" spin off, the Mischa Barton "Beautiful Life" pilot and the "Vampire Diaries" pilot -- is so strong that the network is having a hard time deciding what to cut.
Thoughts?

I don't really want to see any of those shows based on descriptions I've read. I must be too old for the CW now. LOL
If I were a television writer, I'd rather have ONE show that knocks everyone out of the water in terms of excellence than 3 shows that barely make it in ratings because the writers can't dedicate enough energy to them. Chuck and Gossip Girl are struggling in ratings, despite their popularity. I don't understand why Schwartz would want to work on another show if he can barely work on Gossip Girl which has had one failed storyline after the other (NB storyline, CV to name a few). How about the CW drop LILY in order to protect Gossip Girl? Make Schwartz work on that show and fix it instead of giving us a show about a character that hardly anyone even likes.
Plus...don't we already know that Lily ends up becoming like her mother and have no happily ever after? Why would I want to watch Brittany Snow get it on with the 100s of guys on that list she gave Rufus.
Stupid.
Ditto what Daniela has sad. The reasoning behind it baffles me. FOCUS.
Same here. I don't want to see a show about Lilly. We already know the outcome. That show was a stretch to begin with. Come one Gossip Girl barley gets 3 million viewers. I would rather see Vampire Diaries. If you get all the Twilight fans into it you might have a hit. Just say NO to Lilly.
wow it's like you just repost what other reporters write. you're working really hard!
Air the Gossip Girl spin-off and cut anything Mischa Barton related-duh.
I really like the '80s concept, but not at the expense of the 3 shows mentioned above--or Privileged. One Tree Hill is "over the hill" and should've be axed. Or, as previously stated, let the Lily show be a time-gap filler between first-run eps of Gossip Girl or another show.
Good lord! Enough about Lily. Most people, at best are indifferent about her....and the rest hate her!
I hate it when people say "we already know the outcome" because onviously we don't the show hasn't even eded yet. How could we know how the character will end up? If anything they should give up 'Vampire Diaries because although we know that the books were written in the 90's the show is obviously being produced in the height of 'Twilight's' success!
If Ashlee Simpson Wentz is going to be on Melrose Place I will not be watching. I vote to eliminate that show from any planned schedule.
