VIDEO: Keira Knightley beaten in violent domestic abuse PSA

Keiraknightley_pirates2pr_240 "Pirates of the Caribbean" star Keira Knightley has taken a stand against domestic violence in a two-minute clip that depicts the actress being beaten and kicked by a man.

The ad debuts in movie theaters on April 6, only two months after R&B singer Chris Brown allegedly beat his girlfriend Rihanna before they pulled out of the Grammy Awards.

Knightley's ad for Women's Aid, shot by her "Pride & Prejudice" and "Atonement" director Joe Wright, follows the actress after a day of filming and going home to a man playing her boyfriend. He expresses suspicion and jealousy over her intimate work with a costar and then strikes her till she falls.

As she's down, the man continues to kick her as the words "Isn't it time someone called cut?" fill the screen.

Check out the domestic violence PSA yourself.

Your thoughts? Do you think the PSA will be effective?

I think the video of Keir Knightley is so graphic. I wish the whole world could see it. Wow Imagine peiple living that type of life. Women should band together and refuse to be dominated.

I am sicken

anyone who accepts it deserves it. any woman, man whatever who has respect for themselves would leave. Love is not painful.

@Clairessa

NOBODY deserves this whether they stay or not. It is never okay for any to harm their partner physically, mentally, or emotionally.

People typically stay because of being isolated and developing a sense of learned helplessness.

Thinking such as yours is part of what keeps victims from speaking out and escaping their violent cir***stances.

They should show a sequel where he tries that again and she rams a carving knife through his chest. I agree no one should be treated that way, but what's good for the goose is self-defense for the gander.

Lets see one, just one PSA about domestic abuse showing the other side. Men being abused by women. Studies show up to half of all domestic abuse is against men, and yet that seems to be ignored.

what studies? I have never, ever seen studies that show up to HALF of all domestic abuse is perpetrated by women. That's like saying, 'studies show that up to half of white people during the 19th century were slaves." I get it... men are abused too... and often woefully ignored. but that is very significant MINORITY.

This study for one. Clearly stated: "According to the GSS, women and men experience similar rates of both violence and emotional abuse in their relationships."

But the article that Glen's referring to goes on to say this:

"The survey found, however, that the violence experienced by women is tended to be more severe - and more often repeated - than the violence directed at men. For example, compared to men, women were:

* six times more likely to report being sexually ***aulted
* five times more likely to report being choked
* five times more likely to require medical attention, as a result of an ***ault
* three times more likely to be physically injured by an ***ault
* more than twice as likely to report being beaten
* almost twice as likely to report being threatened with, or having a gun or knife used against them
* much more likely to fear for their lives, or be afraid for their children as a result of the violence
* more likely to have sleeping problems, suffer depression or anxiety attacks, or have lowered self-esteem as a result of being abused, and
* more likely to report repeated victimization."

Sadly the Youtube link has been removed. It should be reinstated as it's an important issue. This isn't some leaked footage of Wolverine we're dealing with here. This is serious stuff.
