'The Tudors' returns with a new first lady in Henry's life

Jonathanrhysmeyers Showtime's "The Tudors" returns this weekend and I must say to those who have never checked it out, do. Please do. "Big Love"'s season is now over, "Desperate" and "Brothers & Sisters" are both MIA this Sunday, so your schedule is pretty clear and you have time to sample the Jonathan Rhys-Meyers drama which chronicles the life and times of King Henry VIII.

At what point will the action and intrigue pick up this season? Well, Henry has now beheaded his second wife Ann Boleyn -- naturally, I mean, she couldn't bear a son for him and she banged another dude at some point, so obviously he had to cut her head off -- and he's about ready to take on a third, Ms. Jane Seymour.

From what I gather, now that Henry's first wife Catherine has passed on, the Catholic church is not opposed to this new marriage the way they were vehemently opposed to his union with Ann Boleyn. Plus, Jane Seymour is a devout Catholic herself. And a good woman to boot. She will encourage Henry to reconcile with his daughter by Catherine, Lady Mary, and be an advocate for many of the abused females in her court.

So will all be well in Henry's kingdom now? Uh, no. As his henchman continue to ravage the nation's Abbeys, destroying church property and dissolving holy days, the commoners will reach the end of their rope. A civil rebellion against his Majesty is in the works, my friends. And Mr. Henry should be afraid.

Also, it won't be long before he starts being kind of a dick to Jane too. And, well, I won't spoil her fate for those not really up on European history, but stuff happens.

And Showtime just does a fantastic job with this show. It's titillating (by that, I don't just mean there's lots of booby shots... but there are) and addictive, you'll totally love it.

I'll bet your parents are real proud when they read some of the language you use.

Not A Fan has no friends. Korbi I'm old enough to be your mother I bet. I'd be thrilled if you were my kid! Don't listen to this moron.

its a great series and "not a fan" is a big ****

why did they recast jane? stuff like that bugs me

not a fan - what language are you referring to? Don't you live in the real world? I've heard worse walking down a street! Get a grip.

Korbi, I will be tuning in for the Tudors. I love it! I am a bit 'hmmm' about the recasting but to be honest, its been so long since season 2 and apparently in the 'previously' section of the premiere they've replaced the old actress with the new one. So, sorted.

I bet Not a Fan's parents are really proud when they read him/her attempting to use an adjective to modify an adjective.

The producers did not recast Jane because they wanted to. The original actress quit the role, so they were forced to recast the role. A simple Wikipedia search would have told you that.
