'Scrubs' to return for a 9th year? Didn't I mention this a month ago?
So, today, the Hollywood trade papers are reporting what I told you way back on March 24th: ABC wants "Scrubs" back for a 9th season.
The network, the studio and executive producer Bill Lawrence are currently in talks to make it all happen, even though several of the series' cast members may not be able to return as regulars.
As sources told me several weeks ago, Zach Braff agreeing to appear in at least a third of the season's episodes is at the top of ABC's list of demands, while deals with Donald Faison (Turk), John C. McGinley (Dr. Cox) and Neil Flynn (The Janitor) -- who've all signed on to costar in other pilots -- will have to be hammered out as well.
Last year, when ABC picked "Scrubs" up for what was supposed to be its eighth and final year, ABC president Steve McPherson did indicate that he'd be willing to keep the series going with the new crop of interns Lawrence was bringing in, while having the old cast pop in and out. But with "Scrubs" ratings looking fairly modest this season, most critics didn't think it would happen.
However, insiders tell me that ABC -- which hasn't had a comedy to brag about in quite some time -- is quite pleased with the young, male demo that "Scrubs" continues to draw and that's why Sacred Heart could very well live to see another season.
And what about Nurse Korbi? Is she being paged? Pretty sure she's available.

Not sure how I feel about a Season 9...but if Nurse Korbi's in, than so am I! hahaha
PAGING NURSE KORBI!!
I'm not sure the show works without Braff. When I think of "Scrubs" I think of his narration and the show as being from his point-of-view and wacky imagination daydream trips. Certainly, Nurse Korbi would help me turn every week, but I was never thinking I'd see the current batch of interns take over. Most are only getting one personality trait or joke per episode, they should have been developed more over this season. I don't think I could deal with the squeaky voiced one for more than a line or two per week!
LOL! I must stop and read what I type before I hit enter. Last time I had to explain my "Betty" for B. Getty. Now, not only would Nurse Korbi help me TUNE IN every week, but also help me get through, or turn the corner on another week, .ie turn the week as I put it.
Nurse Korbi sucks. Don't pull any muscles patting yourself on the back there.
JASON, how sad you are. JEALOUS.
ABC just out and out sucks! They are willing to consider keeping crap like this on, but they cancel Life on Mars, Eli Stone and Pushing Daisies. Who's running this network, a bunch of 12 year olds?
At this point, I could go either way. I've made peace with the fact that this is the last season of Scrubs as we know it, but I'm liking some of the new interns (Denise & Sunny in particular), and I'd be mildly interested in seeing a show about them.
The biggest selling point to me though rests on Johnny C & Donald because they'd have to be regulars since they're the Chief of Medicine and the Chief of Surgery. It'd be weird to have two higher ups gone from the hospital all of the time.
And whose to say they can't bring in some new doctors to mix things up. I know this is a pipe dream, but what if they brought in Alexis Bledel (who proved she can do the doctor thing in addition to comedy) as a new attending.
Plus, I've read that another season of Scrubs might give Better Off Ted a stronger chance at renewal, and that would be awesome.
@Rick
I can't speak about Eli Stone or Life on Mars, but Scrubs is better than Pushing Daisies, and I'm a fan of the latter.
It's easy to whine about ABC, but they're still putting on creative shows compared to the other networks (Scrubs, Better Off Ted, Samantha Who, Ugly Betty, The Unusuals, Castle, etc).
Eli, LoM, and PD are dead, so get over it already.
This show seriously needs to go, UNLESS ABC is that desperate to fill prime time slots on their schedule that would explain such a move. They're slowly reverting back to the pre-Regis saving the network days once again. I thought NBC was bad but ABC is starting to join them.
