POLL: Captain America: Who should play the Marvel superhero?

Matthewmcconaughey_peopleschoice06_240 Matthew McConaughey as Captain America? The name of the "Ghosts of Girlfriends Past" star has been bandied about again as a possible contender for the lead in the upcoming film "The First Avenger: Captain America."

This discussion may see a tad premature seeing how the film isn't out till July 2011, but frankly, when it comes to the subject of our beloved superheroes, the debate rages on.

McConaughey isn't a horrible choice, but he's not necessarily a good choice for the patriotic, clean-cut, humanitarian, all-American Steve Rogers who dons the red boots and takes up the stars and stripes shield.

Jonhamm_240 Another name that's got lots of buzz is "Mad Men's" Jon Hamm, who we love at Zap2it and think could prove that he has matinee-idol potential. Besides, we loved him as the "inside the bubble" handsome yet incompetent Dr. Drew Baird on "30 Rock," so if there's any ironic humor to be had, he could handle it.

We're not alone in our love for Hamm. You can also check out the site Jon Hamm Should Play Captain America, which kind of says it all right there.

Others possibilites are wrestling star John Cena, "Fighting"/"Step Up" actor Channing Tatum, Matt Damon, Brad Pitt (eh, isn't he a bit old for the role?), "Supernatural's" wise guy Jensen Ackles (isn't he always suggested for every movie?) Jerry O'Connell, Paul Walker, "Underworld" hybrid Scott Speedman and Justin Timberlake (we like him on "Saturday Night Live" ... but as a superhero?)

As long as the movie can do a product placement for Jon Hamm's John Ham, I'm in!

Keep in mind that Cap, a tall blonde blue-eyed super soldier with the heart of gold and "aw, shucks ma'am" personality, often has the corniest lines to boot.

Mark Valley would actually be perfect here. And Alexander Skarsgård as Thor completes the set.

This list doesn't include Ryan McPartlin, Chuck's Captain Awesome. That means this list is wrong.

Channing Tatum is too ghetto for the part. I mean, has anybody seen him in a role where he spoke plain English?

I didn't think so.

Good call Xwaver. He's a bit of a dark horse, but Mark Valley would totally sell it as Captain America. He's got the look, AND the guy can act. He was great on Boston Legal, and creepy great on Fringe. Comparing those two roles you can see his range.

Its tough you gotta have somebody very muscular that could act

Hell Yeah video beagle! Capt. Awesome would be perfect for Capt. America! He was born for this role! Heck his real life plays out like you'd expect Capt. America to be.

xwaver,

mark valley would be PERFECT for the role!

hell, he was practically C.A. during his stint on "boston legal" anyway...

...though, he's not exactly the most charismatic person out there...
