Pilots: Diane Farr joins 'Parenthood,' Joanna Garcia gets two gigs

Pilot season is starting to wind down, but the latest round of casting includes a few fairly recognizable faces -- including Diane Farr, "Privileged" star Joanna Garcia and "Better Off Ted's" Andrea Anders.
Farr, who most recently co-starred on CBS' "Numb3rs," has joined the cast of NBC's "Parenthood," while Garcia has taken what are for now guest roles in two pilots: NBC's Justin Adler comedy and FOX's "Cop House." Anders, meanwhile, has signed on to the CBS comedy "Big D," according to The Hollywood Reporter.
Jill Clayburgh ("Dirty Sexy Money") and Henry Winkler ("Arrested Development") have also joined the Adler comedy, and Lyndsy Fonseca and Faith Ford will star with Drake Bell in another CBS comedy, "The Fish Tank." Finally, Josh Gad ("Back to You") has taken roles on two projects -- CBS' "Waiting to Die" and ABC's "No Heroics," as well as joining "The Daily Show" as a correspondent.
In "Parenthood," an update of the 1989 movie, Farr will play Peter Krause's wife. She joins a cast that also includes Maura Tierney, Erika Christensen, Dax Shepard and Craig T. Nelson. Her other credits include "The Job" and "Rescue Me," and she recently booked a recurring part on Showtime's "Californication."
The prospects for a second season of "Privileged" weren't great to begin with, but the fact that Garcia is taking other roles is another bad sign for The CW's series. In the Adler comedy, she'll play the wife of "Smallville" alum Michael Rosenbaum's character, the middle child of the family. Clayburgh will play his domineering mom and Winkler their dad.
On "Cop House," Garcia will play the therapist for a group of troubled police officers. Nora Zehetner was previously cast in the role.
CBS' "Big D" is about a couple from New York who move to the husband's hometown of Dallas, putting them in close proximity with his mother (Deanna Dunagan). Culture clash ensues between mom and his wife, played by Anders. As with Garcia and "Privileged," Anders' presence in "Big D" could augur bad things for "Better Off Ted," which has struggled in the ratings on ABC.
"Fish Tank" stars Bell as a teenager who spends most of his time alone while his parents are traveling for work. Fonseca ("Desperate Housewives," "How I Met Your Mother") will play Bell's girlfriend, and Ford, who most recently co-starred in ABC's "Carpoolers," will play his best friend's mom, the HR says.
As for Gad, he'll be a regular on the CBS comedy "Waiting to Die" as a friend of the two shlubby leads, played by Nick Thune and T.J. Miller. In the superhero comedy "No Heroics," he'll have a recurring part as a bartender where the B-list heroes hang out. He also begins his stint on "The Daily Show" this week.

am i the only one out there that thinks Diane Farr seriously needs to return to Numb3rs? the show hasn't been the same since she left...
i agree farr was a great cast member but maybe she didnt want to return.
Nick Thune could be a draw in something.
I don't get why Diane Farr keeps getting acting roles. She has the most obnoxious voice since Rosie Perez last acted. Listening to Farr is like listening to fingernails on a chalkboard.
The best episode ever of "Rescue Me" was the first one after she left.
I loved Diane Farr on Numb3rs.
But what bums me out here is that it looks like 'Better Off Ted' isn't going to get renewed and I've been enjoying it. Dang!
