VIDEO: Hilary Duff grows up on 'Law & Order: SVU'
Lizzie McGuire this is not. Hilary Duff's appearance on "Law & Order: SVU" Tuesday night will show a markedly different side of the former child star.
Duff will play the prime suspect in the disappearance of her infant daughter in Tuesday's episode, and based on the clip of her introduction into the story, her character is about as far from her Disney Channel past as you can get.
The 21-year-old actress plays Ashlee Walker, who comes to Benson (Mariska Hargitay) and Stabler's (Christopher Meloni) attention when her mother (guest star Gail O'Grady) reports the baby's disappearance. Mother and daughter do not get along very well.
The "SVU" role is one of a string of more grown-up parts Duff has taken on recently. True, she plays a high school student in her latest movie, "Stay Cool," but she's a high school student who has the hots for an author (Mark Polish) who returns to his hometown to give a graduation address. Duff is also attached to play notorious outlaw Bonnie Parker in "The Story of Bonnie and Clyde," a film due to begin production soon and hit theaters next year.
Watch the clip, and judge for yourself: Do you think this is a good career move for Duff?

Looks good I guess. Hilary just doesn't seem to pull off the "big girl now" role though...
i was flipping through channels and she was in ghost whisperer as well... idk if anyone watches it
She's never been known as an actress...never. She was on a popular Disney show and became famous from that which is why she's struggling now. Take note Miley Cyrus, you'll hit the same hard path soon too.
I was pretty eager -- I still am -- to see how she takes on other roles. I'm not impressed, but I have a feeling she'll be able to do it somehow.
I think she's gotta take voice lessons or something -- she doesn't seem to understand how her voice sounds. It's not bad, but it doesn't fit her appearance nor the setting, lest she be crying over a make up malfunction.
I heard Justin Timberlake took such lessons to get a deeper voice. Maybe hers can be less "Eric dumped me :[" through lessons.
I like Hilary Duff from the days when my young daughters watched Lizzie McGuire. I like to see her do well in her acting and music endeavors. However, I have to say that in scenes of last night's episode in which she was supposed to convey intense emotion, I did not find her believable. Much worse, however, was the script for this L&O:SVU episode. It was an absurdly unrealistic hour of television. Hilary certainly couldn't save the episode, but I wouldn't consider her the cause for its failure, either.
